Posted - Dec 30 2008 : 08:15:24 AM I was just wondering what people used for shampoo back in the day when there wasn't commercial hair tonics? I would love to cook up something in the kitchen. I just put some vinegar/water in a squirt bottle, that has added a lot of shine, but what could I use to shampoo? PH level is very important, my hair is highlighted. I know that baking soda is a neutralizer, but that is so gritty....I would even consider blending with another shampoo, just to get suds.. Any thoughts? LisaLu

Posted - Jan 13 2009 : 12:59:14 PM I keep mine undiluted in of all things a wilton cake decorators squeeze bottle. It looks like what you use when you color your own hair. I don't dilute mine because my hair is already wet. Be sure you tip your head back a bit...You do need to be careful that you don't let it drip down into your eyes. Yes, I accidently found out the hard way. While it didn't hurt to terribly it certainly didn't tickle either.

Posted - Jan 11 2009 : 07:20:28 AM I couldn't agree more with Cristine on the Apple Cider Vinegar. Everyone in our family rinses with it. I like to use either castille soap but I have been using some of the bar soap from our very own farmgirls store the Hick Chicks Soap Barn. I think that any time we switch products it takes a little adjustment mentally for us to see the results. However, with the ACV I noticed a change that same day! Avocado makes a great conditioner. Especially if you let it sit on there for about 30 minutes.

Posted - Jan 05 2009 : 11:35:11 PM I made a post about homemade shampoo in the Try This section of the forum. You might want to check out that post. Many people posted their hair care experiences there. I like to use whipped egg whites for shampoo. A good site for homemade shampoo recipes is pioneerthinking.com

Posted - Jan 05 2009 : 08:21:54 AM I make a shampoo bar, and as long as you do an ACV rinse as a conditioner, it works WONDERFULLY! I also did the baking soda, and i SWEAR by ACV no matter what you wash your hair with. |

Posted - Jan 04 2009 : 07:17:57 AM I have been using baking soda for over a year now, and I quickly got used to no suds. I actually like it more now, since I know my hair will be getting clean!
