Perhaps a lot of you have known this for years, but I just learned it at our last farmgirl chapter meeting. So of course I want to share it with all of the farmgirls!

Did you know that if you get blood on a quilt while you are hand sewing and prick yourself with a needle, or on a blouse or sheet when you scratch a bug bite.....no matter how it happens......if you use your own spit on your own blood it will take the stain totally out? We were making aprons at our farmgirl chapter meeting and one of the members shared that with us. Well, tonight, I was turning down the bed, and lo and behold, there was a spot of blood on my quilt! I used my spit and it dissolved away!

Hope I am not grossing everyone out totally! :) But it is a good tip to know!

Nancy Jo, I promise I washed the quilt. :)

I am embarrassed to admit I have psoriasis on my elbows. Sometimes in my sleep I scratch it, because it itches so darn much!!!! This tip really helped me!

I knew it would get out your own blood but I hadn't heard it works on any blood. Makes sense though since blood is part of what we are digesting when we eat meat and saliva starts all that process. Good tip!

Didn't there used to be a laundry detergent commercial that insisted "protein gets out protein"? This must be what they were thinking of.

This is a great tip. I jab myself all of the time while sewing.

My farmgirl friend said that spit will work on any blood stain, but works best if you know it is your own blood because the chemicals work in conjunction with each other better. MAybe your own enzymes work well with the chemical make-up of your own blood.....but it is good to know that it will work on any blood stain!

Oh, and by the way, after I spit on my quilt, I washed it! tee-hee :)

Great tip! Thanks! My husband has a port wine stain birthmark that get granulomas that bleed easily, so sometimes I have to deal with a blood stain on my pillowcases or sheets.

It's not just your own blood that spit will work on. It will work on any one blood, same with food stains. It's because saliva has enzymes that will break down the stain. They are in our saliva to break down food. So he digestion begins in our mouth, and of course when we swallow they go on down to our stomaches, etc. And if you notice lots of laundry detergents now have enzymes.

Wow, I didn't know that! I could certainly use that information. I'm constantly jabbing myself when I sew!
