What do you use for dishwasher detergent? Liquid or powdered? We have extremely hard water. What do you suggest.

Oh I will have to try this too! Once I get the stuff for the laundry soap...
I use Electosol tabs. I can get them at CostCo in the big tubs. Last time they were buy one get one free, so I got 4.. Has lasted me quite a while..

I have soft water and I don't use a rinse.. but would try the vinegar when I try the new soap.
Thanks for the tips!
Elise

Hi. I pour straight white vinegar (about 1/4 cup) into main body of the dishwasher every time I start a load. Works like a charm. (What the folks at Jet Dry don't want you to know!)

What are some brand names for the washing soda?

Christina: I agree about those dawn tablets being super expensive. I'm going to try the vinegar. Do you use straight vinegar in the jet-dry dispenser, or do I have to dilute the vinegar? I've never done this. Please give me your advice. Thanks.

I am able to get my washing soda at my Kroger's grocery store but I did have a tough time finding it the first time I looked for some for laundry soap. Some people over on the Laundry Soap forum have said they can get it at their Wal-Mart however mine doesn't carry it. So you may have to check around for it or order it on-line.

I've seen borax in my grocery store but can you get "washing soda" there too? I'd like to try that as well.

Mrs. Meyers is wonderful. Used it at my old job. Smells very nice a little on the expensive side for my household.

I have seen Mrs. Meyers at a couple of places but I have never tried it. You wil have to give me your opinion on it if you do!

Ooh, I'll have to try that. I'm all for saving $$ and saving my septic system. I've been thinking of trying Mrs. Meyers products, but my dishwasher will be here before I can get my order.

Erin I make my own using 1 cup borax and 1 cup washing soda. It takes about 1-2 Tablespoons per load. I also add vinegar to the jet-dry dispenser to help them rinse sparkling clean. Before that I was using Dawn dish tabs. They worked well but I was sick of paying so much for them as the price has risen so much! Plus the natural stuff is probably better for my family.
