I know a lot of people don't like to line dry their towels because of the "crunchy" feeling to them. I happened upon a little tip that seems to help my towels dry soft:
Give the towel a sharp snap before hanging to dry
Dry in the evening time after the sun is already starting to go down/ over night if need be. This is critical. I hypothesize that during the heat of the day, the towels dry to quickly and so get a bit crisp. By drying more slowly over night, in the shade, or in the evening, I think the fibers relax into the drying process more.
Give another sharp snap after taking off the line to dislodge any dust that might have accumulated in the fibers and also to relax the towel a little more.
I can't tell the difference between a dryer dried towel and a line dried towel when I do this...except by scent. The line dried one smells so good!

Thanks for the great tip. I actually love really crisp towels but the rest of the family hates them. So I will surely give this a try.

I have a closeline..but right now the only thing hanging on it are birds!!!! I must admit, never have used mine but I hope to get anew line on it for next summer!!! ps...it's right over my garden!

Alee, What a great tip! I always find that my towels and jeans get a crunchy hard feeling after air drying them. I will try this out and hopefully fix the problem. Thanks again!

Oh chikabella that sounds so amazing! I love the smell of rosemary and that would practically make me die of happiness to have towels that smell like the herb!

Chickabella- that's a great idea if only my rosemary was a bit bigger. It's only about a foot high right now so I think I would be more likely to get mud on my sheets! :(

I love the smell of line dried clothes. We have some large rosemary bushes next to the line, and I'll sometimes drag the towels over the bushes for a quick shot of natural scent. Mmmmm.

Marly- Actually I have realized that using the dryer to wash the clothes is just too fast for me! It gets the clothes done to fast and I am always playing "catch up" So by the time the hour or whatever passes for the line to dry my clothes, I can get the other load folded and more things done around the house. Plus, then all the wonderful smell from my homemade laundry soap stays on the clothes instead of being burned off in the dryer. I have actually felt a lot more rested since I started line drying the clothes- plus I don't have a buzzer yelling at me all day.
I will let you in on a little secret- if you are running a bit behind- the clothes can stay on the line and you can have the excuse for at least a whole day of "I was letting them get just a bit drier before I brought them in" hehehe.

The only critical thing about washing/drying clothes is opening the washer or dryer to put them in. LOL, ROFL!!! Gee, you have abundant energy, I do believe.

Hey, Alee, I was just wondering about this. Here lately, I've been doing a load of laundry after work and hanging it out in the evening. I don't even get to take it down until the following evening and I DID notice that the towels and jeans were much softer! Well, now that you confirmed it, I'm going to continue with this method. I much prefer to do it during the week than to suck up my whole weekend with laundry when there are so many other projects to get done.
