How do you clean your wood floors? I'm not sure what to use. I would like it to be a green as possible but not hurt the finish. The floors are wide plank pine with what the call a street shoe finish. They are not horribly dirty but my cleaning lady did not wash them and I'm noticing that my socks are getting dingy on the bottom. Any help you have I would love.

I'm also a fan of the Murphy's Oil Soap. Our house has the original oak hardwood floors from 98 years ago, and they were recently stained a dark walnut color. I find that Murphy's oil really helps keep the floors shining nicely.

Another vote for Murphy's Oil Soap here! It's pretty much the only cleaner I use on my wood floors, and have always been happy with the results.

We have antique heart pine floors on our first floor, even in the kitchen. The wood came out of an old theatre they took down in Quincy, Florida. I only use a damp mop of water on them, as it seems everything else leaves streaks. Sometimes I wash them on my knees, again with a damp cloth of just water. I also swiffer them in between washing, and use a dustbuster for getting crumbs, etc.

My socks still get dirty on the bottom no matter how many times I damp mop. But I know they are clean! I wonder sometimes if it is the stain wearing off.

I love the fact we have very little carpet. On the down side it does leave lots of floor to wash. The dust bunnies as easier to clean up off the wood floors. Great for allergies also.

I am all for Murphy's. It's great for hardwood and eco-safe and vinegar can actually dry your wood floors out.

I had hardwood floors in my brownstone in St. Paul. We are planning on doing our floors here in the coming months...before planting and such. Getting rid of carpet!! YAY!!

I use vinegar/water, or murphy's oil soap. The neat part is, the floors are so clean, they squeak under your feet (not because of the boards rubbing).

Or try Murphy's Oil Soap. I have hardwood floors through out my house too and that's what we use. It's very eco-friendly and much better than some of the other harsher chemical cleaners that are for hardwood. Otherwise, use the vinegar solution - have done that when I've run out of Murphy's.

Hi Betty Jo!

Try using just regular cold water with a splash of Vinegar and a drop or two of your hand dish washing detergent. It really does the trick. Just wring out your mop or rag really well.
