Have you ladies been reading the Princes 'Mater blog? She has been posting about spending the night outside with her daughter in her "wilderness" of a backyard. Boy- This really brings back memories!

http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/MJFBlog/

My family used to pitch a tent in our back yard as our first "camping trips". Some of my best childhood memories are of "roughin it" in the back yard. My parents even let us have slumber parties in the tents and sometimes I would take just me and the dog out there.

Even though it was just in the back yard- something about the smell of the tent and the sleeping bags would make me feel like I really was roughing it. Of course that was before I really realized what roughing it was!

Kathie-

You are too funny! I bet you and Zoey had a blast! Your "Sr. Citizen" doesn't know what he is missing! I bet you would love to have a Wall Tent like MaryJane! Okay- I want one too! You should move out here and we can build one together :)

Isn't sleeping outside just the best!!!
i truly love it..
I want so badly to have a bed outside.. or a tree house or a bed supended in the trees..
But of course.. Alee.. HE gives me one of those looks again..!
What happened to that man i married?? & when ever did that old man move in? he certainly ain't much fun anymore..
ok.. you know i want grand babies.. & that just isn't happening..
so.. i have neices & nephews.. this is good.. i'm fine with this..
i have a favorite sidekick of course.. 9 year old Zoey..
She's just as whacky as me..
well.. last fall we decided we were going to venture out to the great out doors & sleep in the back of my pick up truck..
It was great!!
We had the jack-o-lantern going..chips..juice..stars..
Perfection! We loved it..
Guess what the Sr. citizen did about 2am..?
Hit the alarm on hi truck & scared us to death!
denyied it of course.. says the cat must have stepped on it INSIDE the house & made it go off!! ( liar..)
Never has happened before or since of course..
we did it again just last weekend..
Guess what he did.. watched Americas most wanted.. court TV..
Anything he possible could to freak us out aboput sleeping outside by outselves..
We're country girls of course.. & won't be swayed..
but sometimes.. i REALLY don't like that man!

I love reading Rebekah's column - and her posts here - she posts under the name "country lawyer" so you know who she is! She's a wonderful, funny, bright and articulate farmgirl - it's true! Alright, Princess 'Mater! I've just blown your cover here!!!!!

XOXO, Libbie

I remember one year my sister had a "tent" birthday party. Her and her friends slept outside in the big 6 man army tent that my dad had. My parents put out a great feast which included homemade cream puffs! *yum!*

I always loved laying out in the tent with books and a flashlight. It always seemed like such fun! I can't wait till Nora is old enough to start doing some of these things.

Does it ever seem that children give us excuses to have a second childhood?

I love reading Rebekah's thoughts. I check every other day or so to see what's up with the Princess. I remember sleeping outside in a tent once when I was a little girl. My dad had set the tent up in behind the grape arbor and laid out our sleeping bags. My brothers and I were so excited to be sleeping outside for the first time. Well, my mom brought us treats, we had our flashlights and dad came to "tuck us in." As he zipped up my very wiggly three-year-old brother's sleeping bag, he caught his little whoo-ha in the zipper which brought the cry of "Don't zip mine tail!!" from my brother!! We laughed and laughed and my brother cried and cried. He slept inside that night! And we have never let him forget it! ;)

That is so fun to do. We didn't have a tent we just slept out in the back yard under the stars and pretended we were really out in the wilderness. Those are good memories.
I have 4 daughters and only one of them would ever sleep outside with me. And in the summertime on a full moon night we would go out on the trails and look for animal tracks. don't ask why it was just fun to do. MB
