I live in the Spokane Valley and we are planning to move to nearby Freeman soon (as soon as hubby can get the vision on the run-down house I want! LOL! Different post!) Anyway, I love quilting and used to be a part of a great quilt group through my church, but with time many have moved away and lives just "got busy" and it eventually unraveled. But I really miss it. My mother-in-law invited me to join her Stitch-N-_itch group (fill in the blank on the missing letter!), but just the name bugs me. I love my moher in law dearly, but she is much more liberal and hardened than I. They gossip and tell off-color jokes. I would love to be part of a group that builds up, encourages and blesses one another, not see who can tell the shadiest joke. Any other quilters out there in the area that would like to get together? Let's talk! Brenda

I know what you mean it took me almost a year before I went to my first spinning get together. But once I was there I was welcomed warmly. It was great.

I have been to the Buggy Barn several times and love it! It is over an hour from my home, but fun to visit. But we do have a couple great quilt shops in Spokane that have quilting groups. I will have to be brave and check them out. I always like to join things when they are first starting, not as intimidating as joining later as the "new kid" on the block. I just need to get over my shyness and push myself a bit. Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Sorry you are having such a hard time finding the right fit. Have you checked in with any local fabric stores or quilt shops? I found a group of local knitters and spinners at the fair one year and was finally able to attend a spin in. Bramble had mentioned Reardon I don't think that is too far out of Spokane. You might connect with some quilters that are looking for a closer connection as well.

Not sure how far away Rearden is but this might be worth a peak: www.buggybarnquilts.com. They seem to have something going on all the time and might be a great resource to quilting groups in your area.
One of the girls here (Celticheart?) knows more about the shop than me. I just know everytime I get their newsletter there are GREAT projects I can't resist. Customer service has been excellent so far as well. I want to come to the summer quilt show/workshop sometime!

Too bad you are not closer. I think we would have a great time quilting together! It is neat that you are passing this on to your children. My three boys would rather die than quilt! LOL! Brenda

I don't live in your area but I have had the same problem I have belonged to 3 differnt groups and it is alot of complaining while quilting instead of happy talk and uplifting conversations. So now I just do my owen thing I would love a group close to me that could meet at my house but I figured better to be happy alone than to be depressed in a group. Now I am creating my own little family quilting group slowly my children are learning skills and they are joining in and they talk of school and friends and I get to know what is happening in their lives and what is important to them. I like this alot just every now and again an adult would be a neat change for a day.

I understand that the name is a joke. The sad thing is they do it too well! Just not what I want in a quilt group. I need people that are a positive influence as we all have more than enough negatives in our lives. I understand that the diapers and breastfeeding conversations would get old too. The group that I was apart (before it sadly desolved) was a great mix of ages and we just all seemed to be such kindred spirits. Would love to experience something like that. Hope others here from my area are interested. Brenda

The name is supposed to be a joke, a play on knitting and "jawing" that women do when they get together. I guess they could call them stitch n chat or stitch and talk, but stitch n [bleep] has a nice rhyme to it. (edited to say) Bleep?? oh, that's funny! 
But I know what you mean about finding the right fit. Once I tried to join a knitting group that was all young mothers. All they talked about was changing diapers and breastfeeding, which is not a bad thing, but since I'm in my 50's and never had kids, I found it really boring.
There are plenty of knitters out there. I'm sure you'll find a group that fits your style.
