It is this weekend in Puyallup, WA. I have been looking forward to it for months.

Marilyn,
I decided to see how I like making dairy products before I buy the cow. I believe county code allows me get two more small animals, hopefully mini moos. I don't think I'll be able to go back to work full time for awhile, so it is a good time for us to continue our mini farming.

Just got back from the Fair--oh what fun. I think Paul Staments talk was our favorite--fungi are going to save the world! We stopped at as many thrift stores we could Sue found a traincase to cover and I found a small rectangle suitcase to cover. Also a glass drink canister with spout--oh we each bought a sh**ake mushroom log (half price at the end of the fair). We got free trees and lemon balm--ate our first sprouted raw food Naninamo(sp) bar. JoAnn

Glad you had fun at the fair! What kind of cheese are you going to make? Do you have dairy animals?

I haven't gotten out to check on the new bees yet. I think I'll wait and do that while I'm at the shop for work this week. I'd rather enjoy a few hours of R&R this evening before the work week starts.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

I spent all my $$! I bought a cheese making kit and a yogurt maker with lots of cultures :)

I went to the Beginning Beekeeping put on by my county's bkprs. association. I got a catalog called Mann Lake Ltd. I am really happy I went, it will cost WAY LESS than I thought.

I wish I could go to the fair I but have too many other things going on this weekend. Paul Stamets is a hoot and a wealth of information about mycology and the environment. I've heard him speak a few times at soil/water quality seminars and on a green gardening program panel. You will enjoy him.

One of my "things" needing attention this weekend is the swarm of homeless bees who have moved into my two vacant hives this week. The bees I had "put there" all died off last fall. I haven't done any maintenance or setting up this year because I planned to take a year off. Well, now I need to go clean out the boxes and get them set up for summer season again. Hoping this bunch of freebies will be a bit more hardy and stick around longer than the ones I paid hundreds of dollars for!

Have fun at the fair!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

It is a drive for us but we make it an adventure! We stop at thrift stores and quilt stores along the way. Going I90 there (stopping at Rosyln-cute quilt shop) probably going to eat at this quaint old drive- in called Twin Pines by Cle Elem. Staying at a motel in Sumner in an effort to stay away from Seattle traffic. Home will be via Hwy 2 and of course stopping at Leavenworth etc. My husband is a retired mycologist so I have to hear the Paul Staments talk and of course Ed Bagley--loved his "green" program. JoAnn P.S. Oh and having dinner at IKEA with Sue's son and I get to buy some of that wonderful lingonberry concentrate--they were out of it the first time I visited.

I only live 15 minutes away! That's a drive, JoAnn. I really want to go to Beekeeping for beginners, because it's my county beekeepers' workshop. I want to see Carol Ekarius, who writes books on livestock.

This Paul Stamets fellow really interests me. http://www.motherearthnews.com/fair/ws-pu-stamets.aspx
The video is worth a look. I love people that are so far out, that they make perfect sense :)
