Trish,

If you are looking for a good Bible, get a King James version or an NIV. Those are the closest translations to the original texts which were written in Hebrew (OT), Greek and Aramaic (NT).

As far as your Aunt getting pulled over for OUI, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope and pray she gets the help that she needs.

As far as taking the Bible literally, remember one thing...RELIGION IS MAN MADE. God and Jesus are not. Religion, itself, was made when people of like beliefs gather to discuss their beliefs in GOD and worship him. There are many ways to interpret the Bible. Some are pretty far fetched. The things you need to keep in mind are, as far as reading the Bible are conserned are that in some cases, you cannot take it literally but you do with most of it. For example, it says in Genises, that God made the universe (including earth) in 7 days. but it also says that one day is God's eye is 1000 years and 1000 years in God's eye is but a day. So how would you interpret creation? Evolution, but not necessarily the way scientists claim? How would you explain creation to someone (a person who lived in Biblical times) who would marvel at a light bulb? but I digress. You need to read it, attend a church that actually preaches from a Bible and has people to help you study it. Beware of liberal churches and churches that are extreeeeemlly conservative. That way, you know what to take literally and what you can take figuratively.

DH is itching to go home. I will try to get back to you later

Ah, gotcha. Well, they're selling it short in missing so much!

Actually, many of us DO take the bible literally. "Apologetics" is when a bible scholar answers questions about the bible like "what does this mean" and "why does it say this"-- But you'd find that most people who live Christianity as a serious faith accept the whole document, we just may have different views on the interpretations and the context it appears in. I seem to get by with anything I've ever been asked and any answers I have looked for for myself.

If you could bring any specific questions or examples, I can do my best to answer them myself, or consult a trusted second opinion.
Religion is big business, and there are a lot of lies in circulation that come between people and the truth.

Oh, and our Christian discussion is here: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=46137&whichpage=38

I just continued any ?'s under CHristian Farmgirls.
my Aunt got a DUII, so that is more interesting for my relatives to talk about!
From everything I read from you all, my cousin just has the wrong idea about salvation.

I am having trouble finding where one lady was explaining the Bilble she uses has different translations/interpretations. That's the one I want.

In trying to learn more from Christians in my own life Ihave noticed that noone takes the Bible literally. Everyone leaves out the parts they want to. I have a friend that is Catholic, but believes it's ok to co-habitate before marriage. HUH?

I keep getting responses to questios about Christian living, which always consist of something to the point of, the Bible was a guide for livivng in ancient times. From what I know so fa, I would have to disagree.

Just because it's hard, doesn't mean it's not relevant. I have seen myself do the same thing regarding Buddhism. I don't HAVE to be a vegetarian, or I can be mean SOMETIMES.
