Posted - Jul 09 2006 : 5:41:48 PM This week starts the Franklin County Fair in Hampton. Anyone in the area? I'm planning to enter some sewing and embroidery items. It would be fun to meet local farm girls for a bite to eat!

Posted - Jul 14 2006 : 3:05:51 PM Kristin, I used to live in Milford and loved your county fair. It IS the best! Georgeann, thanks for the compliment! Yes, I do sew my dresses....I also made some early 1900's clothing for my husband to blacksmith in. I need to take my camera to the fair tonite and get some pictures to update that site with.

Posted - Jul 14 2006 : 01:39:09 AM Hello Iowa farmgirls, Virginia farmgirl here, BUT, my granparents had a farm in Nichols, Iowa. So I grew up alot on their farm and LOVE Iowa. Deb, love your engagement photo on your website. You two look straight out of the past! Your sewing is superb. I'm guessing you made your dress, kind of hard to buy beautiful period dresses like that.

Posted - Jul 13 2006 : 11:01:06 PM See, I live in Spencer-Home of the World's Largest County Fair. It's as big as any state fair. So I'm kinda spoiled. |

Posted - Jul 13 2006 : 6:42:43 PM Hi to Johnson County! Yes, the Franklin County Fair is considered to be the 3rd best in Iowa, behind the State Fair and the Clay County Faire. It has free admission and tons of cool stuff to see. My favorite is the late 1800's village of Pleasant Hill. My husband runs the Blacksmith Shop there. There are also weavers, spinners, potters, broom makers, homemade ice cream and more! Grandpa's Farm is fun with the old farm equipment that really works. Then there's the animals and 4-H and open class displays....my daughter got Best of Show for her bead jewelry! If you can make it here, you'll be glad you did!

Posted - Jul 12 2006 : 6:59:08 PM Sounds like fun! Probably won't be making it your direction this weekend though. We adopted new beagle and he's in bad need of some training. |

Posted - Jul 11 2006 : 09:57:32 AM oooh, cool! Do you come up to the fair? I just took the kids over with their fair entries. I should have entered some things too, but I was just not organized enough to gather up things I've made.
