Jeannie I probably should have kept some of this but it is almost gone now except for some quilts and some things I was going to keep but knowing me they will probably end up in the shop, Carol Sue , yeah I am still kicking havent forgotten you

Miss wilma, I have a few friends who collect old samplers (not stamped, but real old ones from the 1800's and earlier), and some of them have paid thousands. Really. And rightfully so, if they are really old, which is why I keep poking around estate sales and such hoping some day I will find one for a lot less. But I love to stitch the reproductions and make them look old, and hang them in my house. So that is my way of having a collection! It is so nice to know that somewhere, there are still treasures to be found. MAny old samplers come out of England, but there were many done in the US too. I think they are fascinating. LIke quilts, they were a useful thing that was also a work of art.
Oh, and if you stitch one, anyone out there reading this, always date your work and put your name and city if possible.
And the coverlet!!!!! Wow!

Jeannie, The ladys name was Dot Vancorbach, She had been a friend for many years, and I had sold her a lot of antiques thru the years, Everyone knew that she had wonderful things and most people around here wanted something that belonged to her, I was so lucky to be able to buy so much from her husband.The merchandise came from Elisabettown Ky, but it could have been bought by her from many antique shops and shows

My favorites are the old samplers. I can see why they already say sold. Samplers are like a little moment in time, and often they were done by samll girls learning how to embroider. I love the look of them, and if they survive it is always amazing. They are hard to come across too. Where did you find these?

Wow, wouldn't it be cool to go to a doll and toy musuem and learn the history of it all. I would so love doing that.
Miss Wilma, those quilts sure were pretty and the samplers as well.

Our minds work the same with questions about the doll. I have a doll/bear/toy collection, just happens to be in my house instead of a museum :) I "lost" a bunch of vintage/antique toys in a divorce. They were packed away in the midst of the move when the divorce/remarriage to my first husband happened. To try to remember everything that was packed (to take with me) was not easy. Actually, my daughter assumed ownership of a lot of my things and then she moved out and left them too. According to my ex, the 'cleaning lady' must have taken them, which I don't believe. Such is life. He assumed ownership of things I had before I even met him too, so I chose my battles and went on with my life. I only hope to outlive my ex and my BIL so I can regain what is rightfully mine to do with as I please. Family quilts that my MIL intended for me to have in that scenario. Not losing sleep, just being patient and waiting for my opportunity. Huge train collection I 99% bought for the ex and the tools my mechanic stepdad intended to go to my son, his namesake. |

I think you should start a doll and toy collection, Wilma. Maybe even a toy museum. I've always wished we could have one here in Louisville. Who made the doll? Is her body kid leather? Is she gusseted or does she have straight legs? She looks to be about 1910. questions, questions. I just can't help it. LOL!
