I'm so excited to go to this event! I've never gone to a big antique/flea market even and this one sounds huge. so if anyone is interested and is living in the area and surrounding states (i'm in wyoming, but NE isn't far away at all) here's the information i have on a brochure i found:

a 300+ mile yard sale, rain or shine
last full weekend in september (27-28, i'm guessing)
i'm not sure what highway it's along...

here's the website for more info:

let me know if any of you gals will be going!

Oh Elizabeth...I know how disappointing it can be for plans to fall through. Well, now you have a whole YEAR to plan for the next one! Try to go for at least two days and make a mini vacation out of it. Better luck next year.

no i didn't make it... i was so bummed. but it's my hubby's fault. the day before we were going to go, i told him we better map out our way. i'd been bugging him all week to help me plan our route, but he never did. so i told him what you gals had said about it being sparce before Broken Bow. he looked at the route and said that's a LONG way! we should have left today instead of tomorrow! it just wouldn't have been worth it to go for one day... we would have only had a few hours to actually look between driving. it wouldn't have been worth it to me to be rushed. so i gathered up my broken heart and told him we better actually plan next year. so we went on our own mini junk jaunt that was just inside the nebraska border. went to Sydney to Cabella's and back on the back roads and found a quaint Sundry to have lunch and went antique shopping in all the little towns. boy, Nebraska sure is beautiful this time of year! especially on the back roads where you can drive slow and enjoy the beautiful gold corn and wheat fields and changing trees... i did enjoy my day even if we didn't do the big jaunt.

Elizabeth,
Did you make it to the Junk Jaunt? My parents were in Broken Bow at my brother's house, and they went a few places, although they did get a lecture from me! They found an old 50's metal lawn chair for $10, but didn't get it because they weren't sure it was what I was looking for (and, when the went back 20 minutes later to get it after talking to me, it was gone). Luckily, they found another one for $15 and bought it for me the second they saw it! On their way home, they stopped at one place that had a couple of old iron beds for $20 a piece, but didn't buy them. Then next place they stopped had similar beds in worse condition for $100 a piece. They were really kicking themselves. Next year, I'm definitely going with them!

I would love to go to this! I've actually driven through that very empty western part of nebraska into wyoming. Google maps doesn't show the rte number, but we got off Rte 80 at the Oglalla exit and drove up beyond Scottsbluff over into Wyoming and then went straight south into Colorado (that's where we were heading). I'd love to see more of the towns and the people out there. I hope you go, Elizabeth. Please take some pictures!

thanks for the heads up... maybe we'll have to leave early then to get to broken bow and get into the more populated areas.

I love the Junk Jaunt! Unfortunately, I have other plans next weekend, but I'm sending some goodies to my brother & sis-in-law for their yard sale in Broken Bow. Hope you have a good time!

Like Celeste said, until you get to Broken Bow (driving from west), the people and towns tend to be few and far between, but the view is beautiful.

Elizabeth, comming from Wyoming I'm not sure where you plan to begin the 'jaunt', but the section from Dunning to Broken Bow on Highway 2 is VERY sparsely populated by both people and towns, so you would waste a lot of your day just driving. Just to give you a heads up.

I went the first three years they had this...it's awesome. The sand Hills are BEAUTIFUL and there were tons of nifty sales to attend. I loved the ones that were on the farms out there. We would do all three days in our mini-motorhomeand left the area looking like the Clampets, with all the 'treasures' strapped to the back of our RV. There's not a lot of overnight accomodations, so make reservations in advance if you can. Camping is awesome tho--virtually every small town has a couple of electric hook-ups in their city parks, but they won't be listed in any campground directory. We camped in Dannebrog in their park and I had to go to three building in town to find out where to pay the huge $3 fee for camping the night before (they all operate on the honor system), turned out it was at the bank. The people in the sand hills are super friendly, salt-of-the-earth types. My kids had scads of grandma's fussing over them in every little town. Most of the 'towns' consist of a single street with the Methodist church on one side and the Lutheran church accross the street on the other--and all the grandmas (and some grandpas) inside. If it weren't for school, we'd be going again ourselves. Have an terrific adventure.
