Doesn't look like there's many Farm Girls around here.. There are two chapters in MS apparently, but both are 2 - 2 1/2 hours away from where I live.

Any tips and ideas on how to go about finding others in my area who might be interested?

Thanks!

Hi Magdelina,

Here are a couple other ideas that could help:

1) Ask your local library to get MaryJanes Books... then make a poster for a display with your contact info and the Maryjanesfarm.com website info.... it makes it easier to explain the whole farmgirl thing...

2) If you have a local quilt store (fabric store) ask if you can post info there as well....

3) if you have a local book store~ they can carry the books and again you can post info..it is a win win.. for them and for your soon to be chapter..

4) If you have a local extention office go and introduce yourself to them~ they can send gals your way that have like interrests.

5) another oppertunity is any antique store or second hand store~ again ask if you can put up an information table or poster etc.....

6) If you have a whole food market~ ask if they will carry Maryjanes Magazine and again visit with them about your desire to begin a local chapter.

7) It isn't to late for most farmers market~ contact the director and ask if you can set up a table...

8) You might also talk with your local paper, they are often great about sharing what is going on in the community and will help you spread the news.....

Really, it is just "being willing to have the conversation", we farmgirls are literally "everywhere". best of luck to you, if I can help at all.. don't hestitate to email me.. we can "bounce ideas off each other"..... Hope this helps a little~ keep us updated OK?

Thanks so much Karen, You have been so helpful! We do have a local farmer's market, I visit it often but never would have made the connection! I will defintely give that a try ~

Hi, Magdelina -

What a pretty name! Are there any farmers markets in your area? You could start your own chapter and then set up a booth at the market with information about becoming a farmgirl. One of the farmgirls, Rene Groom (prosserfarmgirl) did this and had at least 30 women sign up! You can read how she did this on the Farmgirl Sisterhood / Merit Badge Awardees - Woo-hoo Sisters! / Farmgirl Sisterhood Merit Badge Awardees thread (page 5 / posted June 18). I'm not part of chapter yet but I thought this was a great idea if I'd ever decide to start a chapter. Right now that would be too much on my plate although I'd love to be part of one.

In the meantime, if you join the sisterhood you can be part of an online chapter. I just joined the Junkin' Farmgirls but there are others. Maybe some of the other farmgirls can tell you about those.

Good luck and have fun!
