Posted - Oct 11 2007 : 07:50:41 AM Just had to say how much fun we all had lastnight brainstorming! Our little group of farmchicks went from 2 to 3 to 4 and so on recently...now there are quite a few ladies wanting to learn more about country living and "lost arts" homekeeping. We came up with a list of things to do once a month for about the next three years! (I still have a few more ideas too!)
We start with the Soamaking Workshop soon- Tara and I are co-leading tat as we both make and sell goatmilk soaps.
We will do another project each month keeping in theme with the seasons, including food preservation, Grains 101 and Bread Baking, gardening, Prim Needlework, quilting, Animal Husbandry,Herbal Infusions, Whole Foods for the Whole Family, etc. and in the spring we will do a cheesemaking 101 workshop when my goats are giving plenty.
I'm pretty excited that such a lonely pair of us has turned into a full-fledged community. That means someone will be available to teach on all the stuff I don't know!
Can't wait for The Henhouse!

Posted - Feb 06 2008 : 12:48:29 PM We met in January and had a Tea. We brought farm girl related magazines to share, goodies to eat, and projects we were working on to show off. Had a great time!
This month we will focus the meeting on "frugal ways" and discuss how to cut back and simplify while still maintaing healthy diets and less stressful lives. Being frugal doesn't mean being stressed out! If we fret about every dollar spent we are not doing anybody a favor- but if we manage our lives so frugality is just part of who we are, we will, I believe, live simply and better.

Posted - Oct 11 2007 : 12:15:09 PM Exactly- or even someone to call who won't laugh when you admit incompetency with a task like sewing or a particular dish. And not only with they NOT laugh, they will give you helpful hints, or offer to come help themselves. Yup! Gotta love farmgirls!

Posted - Oct 11 2007 : 09:31:30 AM I know what you mean exactly...you need someone to call who can help with milking a goat, or holding a horse, or to borrow a little freshly ground grain! Someone who won't look at you like you were from the moon when you ask for that kind of help! ")

That is awesome! I am so happy for you! Isn't it great to get to know people close at hand who love the same things you do? After I met a few farmgirls here in town, I felt much more at home. I had lived here for a few years and we had friends and I knew I could call them if I needed to - but still. there is something about knowing you have _farmgirl_ friends to call one- I don't know exactly how to put it, other than you know that even if you don't have a chance to talk to them for months- you could stop by and they would always be happy to see you!
