Posted - Mar 27 2026 : 6:22:59 PM Before I explain why I'm asking I'd like to get a few answers. Are you more likely to walk away from the kitchen sink while it's on or the bathroom sink while it's on?
Personally, I walk away from the kitchen sink all the time while it's filling with water, or a pan is filling, etc. But, I cannot think of a reason that I walk away from the bathroom sink while the water is running.

Posted - Apr 06 2026 : 1:16:37 PM Heather, maybe the holes in the bathrooms are to prevent overflows from children leaving them on lol! My kids have never done it, but I could see how they get forgetful or in a hurry. A child is less likely to use a kitchen sink unless an adult is around.

Posted - Apr 04 2026 : 5:06:42 PM Thank you all for proving my point! My husband and I were brainstorming ideas as to why bathtubs and bathroom sinks have the hole to prevent overflows, but kitchen sinks do not. One idea was for an air vent, but then not all kitchen sinks have 2 sinks. My husband thought maybe because you leave the bathroom sink unattended but not the kitchen sink. When I said it's the opposite, he thought it was just me. I said - I know just who to ask! In his defense, the kitchen is my domain and we both prefer it that way, so he wouldn't leave the kitchen sink on like we do :) Oh, and some internet research showed that the kitchen sinks don't have the extra drain hole because if food gets in there it's hard to clean. Which could lead to bacterial growth problems. That was not something we came up with while brainstorming!
