Posted - Jan 19 2024 : 5:53:34 PM Krista, may i suggest you make a chicken broth for the chicken teriyaki and add some chopped sweet pepper, onion or other veggies and the rice. Rinse off the sauce if it's too much. A simple recycled soup!

Posted - Jan 19 2024 : 2:21:28 PM So this week I had leftover meat loaf, a little bit of our annual ribeye splurge, and some venison that was too tough for our toothless gums. And half a can of green beans. So I cooked a pot of beans, added the leftovers with a big can of tomatoes and basil and oregano. Tasted great, the venison was tender, and it lasted two nights.
I think your leftovers of teriyaki, etc. combined with a cream sauce would make a good casserole :-)

Posted - Jan 19 2024 : 12:52:16 PM So the night before I read that we had chicken teriyaki and rice and I was thinking of all the weird things that would mix with it like spaghetti noodles and sauce or fettuccine alfredo! And a soup made of chicken teriyaki, rice, spaghetti and fettuccine alfredo sounds gross lol. Maybe it's just me. That's why I was trying to see exactly what you would save.

Posted - Jan 16 2024 : 04:26:11 AM Nancy and Judith, When you put your leftovers in the container in the freezer, does it have any liquid in it or do you add broth or something later? We have been having a lot of soup lately with this cold blast in our area.

Posted - Jan 15 2024 : 4:36:59 PM Any meat and veggies except fish. I used to say I could clean out the fridge at the end of the week and make either soup or a casserole.

Posted - Jan 15 2024 : 2:46:47 PM Nancy and Judith, I have a question on that. When you say anything left over, do you really mean anything or are there some stipulations?

Posted - Jan 12 2024 : 6:47:02 PM I used to do that also; had a gallon jar in the freezer and leftovers went into it. When it was full it was time for soup. Always good and never the same twice.

Posted - Jan 12 2024 : 6:41:01 PM Hi, Denise!
I also make soup that way...when anything is leftover, it goes into a container in the freezer. When the container is full, I make soup, which my boys have always called "trash soup" because they didn't understand how costly it was to feed a family of seven. I still make it for my husband and myself. We just use smaller containers for the leftovers. Brings back such fond memories.

Posted - Jan 12 2024 : 11:47:06 AM I made a zucchini soup on Wednesday. It is thick and creamy and tastes pretty good. All 4 kids finished all their soup. That means it's good lol! This soup will be a good way to use up lots of my frozen zucchini from my freezer. I also made some homemade garlic parmesan bread sticks to go with it.

Posted - Jan 08 2024 : 3:59:32 PM I love soup! I could eat every night, but hubby isn't as into it as me. I'm going to make some of these soon, as we are dipping into the single digits. Saturday night I made mushroom curry soup with potato stuffed sourdough flatbread. A bit of work, but so worth it, and SOOO filling. |

Posted - Jan 08 2024 : 3:11:12 PM I made a big pot of Turkish lentil soup Sunday. Perfect for a cold rainy day. I wonder how it is different from Lebanese.

Posted - Nov 17 2023 : 4:10:00 PM Tomorrow the crock pot will have shredded potatoes,, 20 oz bag, chopped onion, chopped peppers, chopped precooked bacon ( or chopped ham, sausage), adding in vegetable broth, chicken broth works too. Seasoned with thyme, a wee bit or red flaked pepper. Cooked on LOW at least 6 hours. You'll be able to stir up the potatoes until they're smooth, then add s & p to taste and some cream, half and half or milk to make it creamy. Very hardy and filling soup. This soup is always open for variations. I like the idea of soup Sunday. We have a college football game to watch so I love doing a crockpot dish.
