A while back I inquired about spices. I use a lot of Herbes de Provence. And, I've been getting it for years from King Arthur Flour. At the time someone mentioned Penzys. I ran out a couple of weeks ago and goldarn it, KAF no longer carried it. So I ordered a bulk bag from Penzys -- great service and nice fresh product. So whoever recommended it -- a but thank you to you. Now I'm gonna order some Chinese Five Spice. I can never find it in the grocery store.

Carole, see my March 27 post for how I use the Herbs de Provence. I also use a couple pinches of it in scrambled eggs or omelets. YUM.

I love Penzy's and they have a store not far from where my daughter lives ... Bonus for me!

I started my spice collection by buying Simply Organic spices; I loved the jar and the fact that the spice name is on the lid! I just refill the jar when it's empty.

Herbes de Provence, a friend of mine brought me some from France. Honestly, I don't think to use it. How do you use your herbes de Provence?

I love Herbs de Provence to cook in rice or make a rub with them for roasted chicken. They are a very versatile combination to work with.

Hi Heather,
Well any Asian dish at all, I usually sprinkle the meat with Chinese 5 Spice and garlic powder before cooking. It really gives Asian dishes a nice flavor "kick".As for the Herbs de Provence -- my two favorite ways to use it are on Avocado Toast and the following absolutely yummy and easy crockpot chicken dish . . .

In your crock pot, place one un-diluted can of cream of mushroom (or cream of chicken) soup ,an 8-oz. block of cream cheese cut into small pieces, 1 can drained cut mushrooms (or fresh if you prefer), and 1/4 cup white wine. While that is warming melt 1/2 cube butter and mix in 1 package of either Ranch or Italian (I prefer Ranch) dressing and one tablespoon Herbs de Provence. Add to the soup mixture and stir well. Add chicken breasts cut in half. Mix all together and cook on high for 2 hours then low for 4 hours. Cook 2 cups of dry bow ties or egg noodles to al dente and add to the chicken mixture just before serving. You can add a couple of hands full of frozen peas the last hour if you like and salt & pepper to taste. I use two nice big chicken breasts. But if your family is larger than mine, you can do more as it makes quite a bit of sauce. Enjoy.

Jean - what do you use Herbes de Provence and Chinese Five Spice for? I grow and use a lot of basil, oregano, chives, and parsley. Your herbs sound a bit more interesting LOL!

Dawn,
That is the Penzy’s I go to. My son and his family live in Naperville and I go several times a year to visit. I always have to make a stop at Penzys when I go there.

We have a Penzy's in our town and it always smells so wonderful inside. Glad you found what you needed.
