Posted - Sep 13 2019 : 1:31:30 PM My dad has a pear tree that is loaded with pears. He brought me a box full and I was struggling to keep up with eating the ripe ones, so I made a pear crumble. Oh my gosh it was delicious! My family has already devoured the whole dish, so I will be making another one tonight with my remaining pears.
What do you make with your pears?

Posted - Nov 29 2019 : 10:49:07 PM I would have never thought to add the topping to squash. Very interesting. It might taste really good. The topping is really delicious and could be eaten alone lol! If you try it on other foods let me know! I'm curious how they would taste!

Posted - Nov 27 2019 : 10:18:32 PM Lol! Winnie you are right! I was referring only to the crumble topping. Substituting almond flour for wheat and any one of the sugar substitutes . It might come in handy down the road, maybe on winter squash?
Happy thanksgiving all! |

Posted - Nov 25 2019 : 10:09:12 AM Sara, I'm glad you liked it. I didn't think of combining the pears and apples but that sounds really good. Now I will have to try that too. I am not familiar with keto or it's recipes, so I wasn't awear it was keto friendly. I'm happy to hear it can be used as a recipe for your son. I'm sure he will enjoy it just as much as the rest of us!

Posted - Nov 23 2019 : 12:44:24 AM Krista, I made my canned pears in a light syrup, 7 pints, and two loaves of pear bread. I was left with only 3 pears for the cobbler so I did dice up three small apples to stretch it out. It turned out great! I especially love the almond topping! I will save that recipe to use on other cobblers and pies, especially keto recipes which I collect for my son who has epilepsy. Thank you again for the inspiration! |

Posted - Nov 19 2019 : 10:53:29 PM I realize I’m way behind here, but I picked up two boxes of pears from Costco last week to put up some canned pears. I will also make a number of loaves of pear bread to go in the freezer. The recipe is from a favorite cookbook on my shelf, The Art of Quick Breads by Beth Hensperger. It’s actually called Pear Bread With Vanilla and Ginger, and showcases crystallized ginger nuggets. Absolutely the best fruit bread recipe I have found and a favorite winter dessert.
Krista, thanks for the recipe, I’ll make a pan of cobbler too! |

Posted - Sep 21 2019 : 09:31:44 AM I didn't have enough pears so my pear to crumble ratio was a bit off, but it tasted delicious! I put the recipe in my recipe box so I can try it with apples in the next week or so. Thanks again for sharing.

Posted - Sep 17 2019 : 1:34:13 PM I saved some of my pears to make something like this - can you share the recipe? It looks amazing. I just canned the rest of mine in light syrup for enjoying this winter. I've never made pear butter before, but I did make some peach butter last year - it's really yummy. Maybe I'll try some pear butter next year too :)
