Posted - Apr 28 2018 : 2:12:20 PM How many of you use a steam canner for fruits, tomatoes and pickles. I did not know they existed until a few years ago. I always used a water bath canner. The steam canner is so much easier and fun to use. No boiling up a huge canner full of water. Am I just stupid or have some of you used them for years?

Posted - May 01 2018 : 07:34:52 AM I have used a steam canner for twenty plus years. I use it for anything that will water bath, like tomatoes, peaches, pears, jams, etc. I love it!

Posted - Apr 30 2018 : 07:07:28 AM I have been in the market for one for awhile. I would love to know what model you all like and would recommend. So far, I have only done bath canning, but have wanted to move on to more canning with a steam canner.

Posted - Apr 29 2018 : 1:04:14 PM I first saw steam canners for sale in my Jung's seed catalog a few years back, so I ordered one. I love it. You only need two quarts of water to use it. It has a temperature indicator in the lid and you heat it up to the temperature correct for your altitude. Then you just process your jars the same time as in a water bath canner. I love not having to fool with the boiling water. It cannot be used for vegetables though. It sure has made canning a lot more pleasant for me. They are readily available on the internet.

Posted - Apr 28 2018 : 2:42:02 PM I have a steam canner I've had for 15 years. I haven't use it since I bought a electric water bath canner. I like the steam canner for like you said pickles, jams, and jellies. I may use mine if I decide to make any preserves this year. Steam canners are perfect for 4 and 8 oz jars.
