I wonder if anyone has one older than mine. According to the company, when I wrote them about 20 years ago, it is early to mid 50's vintage. It's model K5A and was used for many years in a well known SoCalif. catering business. I knew the owner (he made the blintzes and a few other items for the Jewish Deli I worked at) and when he went out of business he sold it to me for $100. Probably the best money I've ever spent, a real workhorse. I bought it about 1979 and haven't spent a dime on repairs. The meat grinder was the only attachement that came with it and none of the newer ones will fit.

Ronna, my starter is still going strong, and my bread keeps getting better, I like letting the sponge sit overnight. my KA is an old white one, I need a new whipping blade! I whipped without my bowl being locked down and messed it up......... take care Ronna! jo

My KA is Charcoal Grey and I ADORE IT! I use it on a daily basis. It is by no means old though as it was a wedding gift. I have a lot of attachments for it and each one gets used regularly.

I actually have another old one hiding in the hall pantry or one of the kitchen cupboards I've not cleaned out yet. When I find it, I might just offer it here. I think the older ones were much better built, especially when the company was still Hobart. $45 for one was a steal, Babs. I even loaned this one to the Deli, after a huge fire and when the place was rebuilt. I finally had to tell them to get one, I needed mine back. It's not a commercial model, but very well built for heavy use. Mine has lots of paint chips, but I don't even notice them anymore. If I repainted it, it would probably quit working :)
Keep watching the Barter listing, I have a bunch of oldie but goodie kitchen stuff to offer to a new home. Pulled a large set of old Wagner/magnalite pots and pans out of the cupboards last weekend, also about a dozen Wagner cast iron skillets. I'm keeping the Griswold plus the Wagners I use all the time, but no need for keeping more than I can use or my kids want. I was thinking the #3's would be great for individual MJF BakeOvers and have 4 or 5 of them I never use.

I'd love to find an old one, too. Ronna, you are VERY lucky! I've even checked ebay, and when one does come up, it's either chipped or goes for WAY more money than I can afford.

I've been haunting the two thrift stores in town for over a year, hoping to find one. I know if one comes in, it will be gone in a flash, so it's really a "luck" thing. I'd love to find one of the old ones with metal gears, but so far I haven't see one. Yours sounds wonderful!

My Kitchen Aid is about 20 years old. It has worked well, but it on the way out. My husband replaced the "plastic gears" twice, and refuses to work on it any more. I am dissapointed that they are made with plastic gears, but it has done alot of work. I make all my own bread, noodles, I grate, grind and do alot with it. Michele |

I have my late mother-in-laws (and a new red one!...and a new white one...I know I am greedy!)...it is great! Replace the brushes in the motor about 10 years ago. I think it is an early 70's model. She was a caterer and it got a work out! I use it for making soap now. And Husband converted another professional size to fit a 5 gallon bucket for soapmaking. The red one is strictly for cooking.
By the way...he bought me a new gas range for Valentines...what a sweetie!

I got my first one in the late 70s, and when I killed it I got my current one. I don't remember when that happened.
Yours must be a treasure, Ronna! It sounds like it's commercial grade. You'll probably use it the rest of your life. |

My Kitchen Aid is hunter green. Actually I bought it for my husband for a gift in 1994. It runs like a champ. Love it. I would love to have a hand model now for quick mixes.

well mine isn't as old --- I killed my first one -- stripped the teeth right off the gears making bread! In Germany I had a Bosch but it was 220 so we bought another KA when we got here so it's only about 2.5 years.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
