In this month's grocery store magazine:

Use canning jar rings to form uniform and firm hamburger patties. If you line the jar rings with plastic wrap you can lift the patty out. You can also use any lid from any jar - example a peanut butter jar lid.

Ice cream cubes. Soften ice cream & put into ice cube trays. Add to milk/chocolate milk or iced coffee for an extra treat.

Please share your food hints with us.

For the lemons, I also pop them in the microwave for 10 seconds and then roll them on the counter before juicing. It really seems to help!

Tina & Jana great ideas. Jana I keep apples separate from other fruits and veggies to keep them from ripening too soon. I learned the hard way when within days lemons molded next to apples.

Keep lettuce fresh longer by draping a paper towel over the top of a bowl of sald, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap to keep the lettuce fresh for a week.

To get more juice from a lemon, roll the lemon on the counter while applying a bit of pressure before juicing the fruit.

When measuring sticky stuff like honey, molasses or peanut butter, spray your measuring cup with non-stick spray so that it slides right out.

To ripen fruit overnight, place it in a paper bag with an apple. Apples release ethylene gas that hastens the maturing process of other fruits.

To easily shred boneless, cooked chicken or roasts, place in your mixer and it will shred within seconds!

Good hints Jana.

Today on Martha Stewart on PBS she used two same sized knives held together to chop walnuts. She held the handles with one hand and the top of the blades at the other end with the other hand. She said it kept the nuts from flying around and chopped the nuts faster. Doubt if I will try it because I don't have two same sized knives.

I have used this trick for years to eliminating onion, garlic and/or pepper smell from my hands. While washing you hands with soap and water run your soapy hands on the stainless steel sink, facet or spoon for a minute then rinse. I hear used coffee grounds and baking soda also works, but I haven't tried either yet.

Also a good way to neutralizing hot pepper sting on you hand(s) is to soak your hand(s) in milk or yogurt until the stinging sensation subsides.

Jaime, I thought I had seen every American Test Kitchen show and most twice, but I missed that one on butter. Thanks, that is a good hint.

If you try to soften butter in microwave and it goes too far, starts to melt, you can stir it - metal bowl is best - with a couple ice cubes until it solidifies again. Then you can go ahead and use for cookies, whatever, that called for the softened butter. Saw this on America's Test Kitchen! And it works!

If you are trying to whip egg whites to soft or stiff peaks - set your metal bowl and your metal beaters in the freezer for a while before you start. It really helps the egg whites stiffen up better and faster once you get started!

Judith, you're right it would feed a crowd and look great on a buffet or picnic table.

This morning on The Kitchen on the FC instead of making two apple pies they made one in a cookie sheet. Topped it with pie dough cut with leaf cookie cutters. Chilled the dough before cutting the leaves so they would hold together.

Condensed sweeten milk is good in iced coffee. To tell the truth I can eat it right out of the can.

We've always added vanilla bean ice cream to coffee! It's the perfect mixture of cream and sugar!

You can do the ice cube trick for leftover coffee as well. Either make yourself and iced coffee, cappuccino or use a cube to cool really hot coffee down.

I really like the uniform hamburger patties! That's a great idea when your making a ton for a BBQ and what them all the same size.
