Posted - Feb 24 2016 : 06:32:18 AM There is a thread about this somewhere else but I could not find it so decided to start a new one for us here.
When I was growing up, I had these little food cans to play with in my toy stash that had all belonged to my older brothers and sisters. I think the cans were actually toys that my mother played with. They were miniature Libby canned goods like the ones sold in the stores. The graphics seem to be very turn of the century in look. My mother was born in 1914 so they could have easily been toys she had from her sister who was born in 1907. They have been stored in a box for many years and the other day I decided to find some sort of shelving to put them on and place them in my kitchen.
I found this little shelf at an antique mall for cheap and it seems to work perfectly. The little Gerber cereal, Dominos sugar and Rice Krispies were samples that mom put little wood blocks in.
Check out my little canned goods pantry next to my vintage stove from the 1930s.
What is old in your kitchen? I would love to see what treasures you have from the past.

Posted - Feb 25 2016 : 06:20:37 AM Hehehe, I think many of us find that WE are the oldest thing hanging around!! How did that happen? It seems like just yesterday I was playing with those little Libby cans in my basement. Now I am starting to sound like an old lady!! LOL!!!
Deborah, it would be fun to get your old stove working again. Let us know if you find someone who can restore it to working order. I have never actually tried using mine although the person I purchased it from said it still worked. I just wanted mine for a decoration and it is pretty small. Sometimes, I daydream about what it would be like to make Thanksgiving dinner on it and create that old feeling of the song "Over the River and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go." Wouldn't that be fun?

Posted - Feb 24 2016 : 2:16:13 PM I have a few things that I rescued from our farm before we sold it, such as scales we used for apples and another one for eggs. A few other miscellaneous items. But like Marilyn says, the main antique in my kitchen is ME! I'm probably older than the treasures from the farm . . who knows! CJ

Posted - Feb 24 2016 : 10:39:16 AM Deborah, I love that stove! Does it work? Here is an older photo of mine when I had decorated it for Fall. Mine runs on gas and the three burner top under the cover seems to be in pretty good shape. The little oven is rusted out in places.
Sara, I know what you are saying about touching something old that you know served other families in the past. It feels like being connected.

Posted - Feb 24 2016 : 06:56:29 AM What a great display, Winnie! Extra special for you because of the memories.
Most of what I have in my kitchen are collectibles from the 1920s -1960s. Very few real antiques. Among my favorite things is my collection of zinc jar lids. I have them on all my mason jars and vintage jars that hold beans, pastas, crackers, and all my home dried foods. Every time I handle them I get a warm feeling that whispers 'I'm connected to the woman who used and loved it before me'.
