Denise, you nag so sweetly! Here's the recipe... of course add or subtract favorite ingredients as you like, but this is what I came up with.

Granola

2 1/2 cups old fashion oats
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sunflower meats
1/2 cup almond slivers
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1 tsp. cinnamon

1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup raisins (I like 1/2 cup of dark, /1/2 light-for prettiness sake)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease (I like "Pam" type spray for this) two large baking sheets (pans with sides work best). Mix first 8 ingredients together in a large bowl. Melt butter & honey together. Remove from heat & add vanilla. Pour over granola mixture and stir to coat granola. Spread granola out on two large baking sheets. Bake at 325 for about 20-25 minutes. Stir frequently as the edges tend to brown up faster than the middle. Granola should be golden brown when finished. While still warm, add raisins. When cool store in airtight containers.

This makes a wonderful gift! Enjoy!

Mary Ann, I hope you like it! It would be easy to add other things like sunflower seeds... or use pecans instead of almonds. I wanted to not add oil, which is why this recipe appealed to me. We're on a plain yogurt kick now, so that's what we use instead of milk with the granola.

What about granola bars? My son eats many of the chewy ones. Any recipes for those?

Ann, I've looked at a lot of granola recipes through the years, and that one sure sounds terrific! Simple and relatively low in sugar, without sacrificing taste.

That'll be on my to-do list! Thanks!

Here's mine, also in the Farmgirl cookbook...

this is doubled:

6 cups old fashioned oats
3 cups sliced almonds
1/4 cup wheat germ (opt.)
2 tsp. cinnamon

Place in a large pan (I use the oven's broiler pan). Heat together in a saucepan or in the microwave: 1 cup applejuice concentrate, and 6 tablespoons brown sugar. Pour over the oat mixture, and stir well.

Bake in a 300 degree oven, or 275 if convection. Stir every 10-15 minutes, until all is nicely browned. Add: 1 cup unsweetened coconut. Bake another ten minutes. Remove from oven. Add 1 cup dried fruit of choice.

I have a great recipe for granola. I modified it from an old Sunset recipe.

8 cups old fashioned oats(sometimes I use 9 cups, I love oatmeal)
1 cup coconut flakes
1 cup raw sunflower seeds
Mix in a large bowl

In a sauce pan mix together
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup oil ( I use olive)
1/3 cup water
Bring to boil and boil one minute. Remove from heat.
Add:
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp coconut extract
Be careful it foams up
Pour over the oat mixture. Mix well. Spread in a large deep pan. Bake at 300 degrees for an hour. Check and stir frequently.

Thanks Susan, I am going to make some of that!! I am on a gluten free diet and granola is something I really miss...BUT I just found an online retailer for Gluten-Free oats (usually they are contaminated with wheat)

I am going to use mostly oats and add the berries!
Thanks
