Hey Farmgirls,
Just thought I'd put a big "YES" out there for Mary Jane's Pemmican bars. They don't use meat, but lost of nuts, dried fruits, etc. and my hubby and I really like them for a pick-me-up snack.

The recipe is in her Ideabook/Cookbook/Life Book on page 296. I use oat flour and oat bran instead of wheat, for my own personal diet needs. We are able to get local honey from our neighbors just about 1/4 mile down the road. They charge us by the pound to refill their jars, which is 2/3rd the cost of their honey in the market! Sweet deal, huh?

Anyway, just thought I share!

Made another double batch today! We really like them for a healthy snack! Far more healthy . . . and tasty . . . than commercially made granola bars!

We can't keep them in the house and it's just hubby and me. We really like them!

I've made MaryJane's Pemmican Bars from her Ideas book too and they are really delicious! I like your substitution idea, CeeJay with the oats. I should make a batch and try it out.

I've heard that elk is good in pemmican. We don't have elk but I'm happy with MJ's recipe!

MJ's Pemmican Bars actually inspired my Hunky Hubbie to make Pemmican with ground Elk meat, nuts, raisins, dried cranberries and dried cherries. Absolutely to DIE for!
