Hi girls -

Just finished pressure canning turkey soup in brand new Ball jars. Left 1" headspace, wiped the rims well, placed the lids on top and screwed them finger tight as I usually would, cooked under the right pressure for 90 minutes, allowed the canner to cool until the pressure came down to zero. Removed the weight, opened the lid and all of a sudden >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP< >POP<.... etc., etc... You get the idea. The jar lids have been popping up and down like whack-a-moles for the past 10+ minutes!!! We've been watching with great interest - it's extremely entertaining... But I have NEVER seen anything like it! If I didn't know any better, I'd swear they were breathing!!! It's as if they're possessed! ;) LOL! Of course, the soup inside the jars is still boiling, so I'm thinking we're not quite done yet with the "pop dancing," but I am concerned: Does this mean they will not seal properly? Did I do something wrong? Or is this something else that happens, but I've just never seen before? It's CRAZY!!!

Please advise!

Thanks so much! 'Always an adventure! LOL!

Hugs -

Thanks, Shannon - I'm telling you, it was such a weird experience! LOL! Thankfully everything sealed up tight. I think that's what I was most concerned about. All's right with the world! :) Hugs - Nini

I cannot explain the WHY, but I can say it has happened to me before... I have actually gotten to where I let them stay in the canner for awhile, with it at zero pressure and the lid on, just so it doesn't drive me nuts or spray all over the place!
