Posted - Sep 25 2015 : 11:44:36 AM Hey everyone, So I have been trying to work on my first Merit Badge Know Your Food.
I found an issue of MaryJanes Farm from last year and thought I would try this bread. Well oh my goodness is it good. Now I know why it says if there is any left. This bread is amazing and I will be making it alot more. Thanks MaryJane for the recipe. I am including a photo of my loaf. Hugs, Angela#6681
also I did leave out the wheat and oat flour because I did not have any but will get that to try .jpg?v 34277343)

Posted - Nov 01 2015 : 07:25:42 AM This is my favorite, favorite Irish Soda Bread recipe and I have been making it for several years! Angela, you really need to try it with the whole wheat and oat flours, gives kind of a nutty flavor. To make the oat flour, I just grind up regular oats in my mini food processor. Wow, can't wait to see a bread book Mary Jane! :)

Posted - Oct 12 2015 : 07:01:06 AM Great idea. I think I might do the same thing. Ashley, my DIL, canned some apple butter a couple of weeks ago plus we've been playing around with soda bread again using different flours. All I'd have to find is the perfect apple/Christmas card to give with the duo. Winnie, any ideas? I loved your April Cornell apple card that you sent me.

Posted - Oct 12 2015 : 06:23:27 AM I have an idea. Will you ladies let me know what you think? I love the MaryJanes Irish Soda Bread. I was thinking for Christmas, I would add some of my homeade apple butter to the recipe and have a MaryJanes Irish Soda Apple Butter Bread (may abbreviate on gift card). Let me know what you all think. Hugs, Angela#6681

Posted - Sep 26 2015 : 7:08:15 PM Enjoy the process. I taught desktop publishing and had to deal with a yearbook and its publisher. Deadlines were brutal. I don't blame you. Have fun! I love baking bread so I will anxiously await your efforts!

Posted - Sep 26 2015 : 2:43:16 PM I love to bake bread and I am looking forward to this new book! The grueling timelines of publishers sounds exhausting and I completely agree with you that it takes all the fun out of a project. Let's hear it for slowing down the pace so you don't go crazy in the end. Mmmmmmm, I bet that hot soda bread with butter and honey was the perfect lunch, preferably followed by a crisp and juicy apple. LOL!!

Posted - Sep 26 2015 : 11:21:28 AM Once I hit 62, I decided to eliminate as many deadlines in my life as possible. Getting my Milk Cow Kitchen book finished meant I didn't get to sleep for four months because toward the end, we were still fussing with the cheese recipes and changing the brine time on them, etc. The problem with taking money from a publisher up front is they pick out a deadline and then about 8 months to a year prior, they begin all the marketing on it so you can't be late. When my bread book is done, it's done:) Maybe another year or so, given all the stuff I have going on. Besides, without a deadline looming, it's pure fun. Thanks for asking!

Posted - Sep 25 2015 : 12:01:58 PM Today, we're making six different loaves of soda bread (the recipe you used but using different flours and a sourdough starter) for my upcoming bread book. Our noses are getting a workout today! Guess what I had for lunch? Irish Soda bread, warm from the oven, with butter and honey on top. So glad you liked it! Your loaf is beautiful.
