I have been busy making cheese. Anyone have good uses for all the whey? I have just been dumping it, cause I don't have any pigs. Sometimes I make ricotta, but I have not had the best of luck with it. Is it good to put on the garden? Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks Michele

Beachbum,

If you have access to one of those pack and ship places/UPS they can supply packages of dry ice Find a small cooler, use the dry ice then use a regular box for the outside

Hey BB,
I couldn't get on this web page for a while.
You always have to heat the milk to make yogurt. I don't make kefir, sorry, but I make ALOT of yogurt. Cow and goat yogurt. The milk has to be a certain temperature for the bacteria to grow. I don't know if you want to know about yogurt, but let me know if you do.
When I used the whey to make the turnips I still added salt, sea salt. And when my husband tasted them when they were almost ready, he had me put more salt in.
The Lord Bless you! Faith

So you are saying it is healther than just using sea salt. Can you make yogurt without heating up? Do you know if anyone has live culture kefir grains to give away. I PMed Flowergirl(I think that's who it was)on the kefir link asking for some grains but have gotten a reply. So if you or anyone else have any to sell or give away or recommend where to get some good ones to buy. That wood be great.

Thank you and God Bless

No answer for shipping the whey...but it is great stuff. Whey can be made by pouring yougart into a piece of cheese cloth, then hanging it and letting it drip into a bowl. In fact, I plan to make some today.

OMG, that is too funny. I was just thinking of using whey. Maybe you can give it to use farmgals/guys, I would love some and pay for the shipping. I just do not have a clue how you can ship it safely without it going bad. Maybe someone here would know. Does anyone know if it makes a difference to use whey or sea salt when fermenting? From what FaithMarie said probably the whey.

Is whey better to use than sea salt?

Thank you and God Bless

Thanks girls for the suggestions. Intersting, using whey instead of vineger.

If you have the book Nourishing Traditions It has some ideas. I know it says it is excellent for your tummy. Mix it with water and drink. It is very healthy. I made pickled turnips with it. I used the whey instead of vinegar. They turned out excellent! The book says to put it in a bottle and save it in a bottle in the refridgerator.

It is good to use in bread in place of the water.
