Ladies, I have an upright freezer in my garage. It is not a deep freeze and the garage itself get mighty cold (sub zero sometimes) because we don't ever close the garage doors. My question is this: I canned pureed pumpkin and made pear mincemeat and put them in glass jars in the freezer. Will the reallly cold temperatures that we experience in the winter cause those jars to explode? What happens in the refrigerator that we have out there is any soda pop left in the fridge freezes then explodes after it thaws..What are your thoughts/experiences? Thanks so much.. Julia Hayes

I think most anything carbonated should not be frozen.

I have a freezer in my garage too, also an upright. I mostly keep meat in it, but do freeze plastic jars and milk jugs of colostrum (cow and goat) and havn't ever had a problem. It for sure gets below 0 alot in the winter. I think, being insulated it dosn't get that cold in the freezer. This will be my first winter with a fridge in the garage also (we call it the milk fridge) I rarely have soda in it but good to know that if I do I should be careful!!!
