I need some help sisters!!!! I'm familiar with what a 'chili' should be but I'm looking for a recipe from the mid-west area whichis more like a soup than a proper 'chili'.

Here is what it is like:
It is smooth, without tomato chunks.
Has short spaghetti-like noodles.
Spicy but not flammable hot.
There is meat in it, but I don't remember if it has beans in it. I don't think it does.
Pretty sure there are onions and garlic in it, in some form anyway.

I've been craving this type of chili from back home for 2 weeks now, and the chili here just isn't the kind of chili I'm craving.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks everyone! For the seasoning aspect, it is definitely Cincinnati Chili! I am absolutely thrilled to have that taste again without having to go 1600 miles 'back home' to get a bowl! The only thing I'd do different is use tomato sauce or puree the tomatoes minus the seeds in a blender and then I think I'll have the texture I'm lookin' for! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is one happy, pregnant momma!!!

It sounds like Cincinnati Chili. I grew up there, and it is quite popular, and very unique. It is actually Greek in origin. I googled it, and the recipes are really not quite right. THe ground beef is not browned, it is cooked raw, in water with the spices. (get lean beef, or skim fat, or heck just go full fat!) Sounds weird, but believe me, this chili is SOO good.
There is actually a Cincinnati Chili spice packet that is pretty good, as the spice combo is fairly detailed (cinnamon & chocolate for starters)
I keep several of the packets on hand, and for a quick meal, you add 1 lb ground beef, 1 can of tomato paste, 4 cups of water, and 1 pack of the seasoning mix. Cook until beef is done, and then I take my stick blender and blend the meat even further, to get that smooth texture.
This style chili is served plain, or
Over spaghetti (2 way)
With cheese (3 way)
With cheese and raw diced onions or beans (4 way)
OR all out chili, cheese, onions and beans (5 way)
Of course topped with tabasco and oyster crackers.

I live in the Midwest, so maybe my recipe would count? Not really a recipe though.
Take a quart of tomato juice, add a can of tomato soup, fry up a pound of hamburger and throw in there. Add a can of kidney beans or chili beans. Add the spices you like, chili powder, oregano, basil, onion, salt pepper. And finally add in bite size chunks of potatoes. My grandma always made her chili like that. So that was the way my ma had to make it. I can't call it chili if it don't have potatoes in it!
have fun!
