Posted - Jan 05 2014 : 11:18:31 AM Hi all, I'm new to Farmgirl Connection,so have not been able to read through every forum and post yet. I hope this is not something that's already been discussed elsewhere. I'm wondering if anyone has used Tattler canning lids? I purchased a couple dozen to try out this fall for canning and have had about half of them fail to maintain their seal. Has anyone else experienced this, or am I doing something wrong? Janelle |

Posted - Jan 05 2014 : 9:54:13 PM Water bathing (boiling water) is so easy, I would not risk not processing my jam.
Processing (water bath) is for more then sealing the jar, it's to make sure all bacteria that could of been in the jar or the jam/food is killed, and is not "sealed" in there, which could cause at least mold, and at worst botulism.

Posted - Jan 05 2014 : 7:17:18 PM Great topic Janelle! I've looked at Tattler lids at store and came very close to buying a few but I am wondering if they can only be used for boiling water bath processing or if they will also work for jam where you turn the hot liquid upside down on the lid with the ring tightened so it forms a vacuum seal as it cools. Hopefully someone will be able to help you figure out why they aren't sealing and what to do about it.
Cheers! ~ Marilyn
