Hello girls!

I've decided I really want to do some special home-made presents this year. I thought it would be fun to do a small basket with a wedge of my own brie, crackers, and 3-4 savory jams, condiments, ketchup, etc. I would also love to include a little booklet of my own giving serving suggestions, some of my own recipes, and general tips and tricks. I came up with this list, but they all sound so good! And so, I need your help. Tell me what sounds the tastiest, variations, pairings, etc. Anything to help me start drafting my 'booklet'. I know I can count on you gal geniuses!

-Spicy Yellow Tomato Jam
-Sweet Onion and Roasted Red Pepper Butter
-Apricot Jam with shallots and sage
-Blueberry Chipotle Ketchup
-Tomatillo and Roasted Green Chile Ketchup
-Tomato Basil Jam
-Peach Habanero Jelly
-Carrot Ginger Jam
-Boozy Bacon Jam

These sound wonderful! Having said that, make sure that you provide a little blurb about "how to use"...you'd be surprised how many people don't know the first thing about preserves or chutneys, or think outside the box when using them. I love Sharon's ideas about the bacon jam. That's what I'm talking about.

You want your gift to be utilized and not stuck up in some cabinet for years and then they toss it. I'm so not trying to be mean--it's just that "we" think alike and would love these items and know just what to do, but other folks are really...daft

I'm making a savory cranberry chutney to preserve and rosehip jelly. If time and energy permits I'll probably find something else to make, too :)

Honestly everything sounds like something I would gladly treasure in any gift I received... The kind of unusual and tempting treats that I would want to dream up and share with my loved ones, so I congradulate you on such a bounty of giving! And thank you so much for welcoming me as a new farmgirl... It was the very thing I needed to hear today.. I was feeling a little blue and you brought some sun in with your words. Hi Laurie! Luckily the only people in my family who do a decent amount of canning are my mother and father-in law. They're not exactly the 'adventurous' type when it comes to eating, so I have the pleasure of introducing them to new things!

Thanks ladies for the advice and awesome tips! I made the bacon jam last night just to practice, and I have to say it's pretty incredible. It needs a few adjustments before Christmas, but it's a good start. Let me know if anyone wants the recipe. I'd be more than happy to share! Very easy and delish!

What do you do home-made for the canners in your family? They make anything I would.

There is a thread over under the "Holiday" forum for handmade gift ideas too.

Your list sounds yummy!

This year I added Caramel Apple Jam, Homemade Mexican Taco Mix, and vanilla. Yesterday, I made my first jar of homemade pear liqueur. I can't wait to taste it.

Welcome Ashley!

Wow, I am with Nini on these, they all sound amazing!

I'm not sure what you are needing help with, is it ideas for using the condiments above?
The items that sound the best to me would be:

~Apricot Jam with Shallots and Sage. I would use this with cream cheese and crackers, a glaze for roasted or grilled chicken or pork, and for panini style sandwiches with smoked chicken or turkey, Jarlsberg cheese and spinach.

~Blueberry Chipotle Ketchup. I think it would make a fun glaze for meatloaf and I would also try serving it with sweet potato fries.

~Tomato-Basil Jam. This would have so many uses. Again as a glaze, as a spread for small pizzas, make a vinaigrette from it, serve on a grilled sandwich.

~Boozy Bacon Jam. I am not into booze :) BUT have made Bacon Jam and we love it! We use ours either atop a slice of toasted French Bread with a sunny side up egg, or for grilled sandwiches: Smoked Turkey or Ham, Smoked Gouda, Tomato and Avocado.

Everything sounds good, that would be hard narrowing down those choices of condiments!

I hope that you hear from a chapter soon!

Thank you thank you! I did see the duck actually. And my husband and I decided that it really did make us feel a bit more cheerful! Where are you located? I'd love to meet up with some farm gals around the area. There is a chapter in Sewickley, but unfortunately they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Ashley - Welcome!!!

They all sound so good! I think your basket sounds just wonderful! All your jams, jellies, butter and ketchups just sound so, so good!

I'm not too far from Pittsburgh at all! Did you see the duck? LOL!

Hugs -
