So, we've have decided to have soup for dinner for Sundays through the winter months. It just sounds so cozy, doesn't it? I really want to vary the soups though. So, what are your favorites? My boys tend to not like real brothy type soups, but they'd eat them.

Last week, we had lasagna soup. This week is cheddar broccoli.

Could you share your favorite recipes? Or soup related recipes, such as rolls, salads or other yummy accompaniments?

Oh, I forgot. I did actually change it up and didn't use V-8. I used some tomato sauce stuff that I had canned over the summer. Still yummy!

I found the recipe for Lasgana Soup from Family Fresh Meals. This was a big hit with the boys! Served it up with some hot out of the oven garlic bread. Yum!

1 lb ground beef
3 cups of beef broth
1 cup of water
4-5 cloves of garlic, minced
1 TB dried parsley
1 TB dried basil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1, 28 oz can of diced tomatoes
1, 6oz can of tomato paste
1 cup V8 (or any vegetable drink)
2 cups uncooked shell pasta
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
Optional topping- shredded cheese

1. First mix together the can of tomatoes, and tomato paste in crockpot.

2. Next add broth, beef, garlic, parsley, basil, onion, V8 and salt/pepper.

3. Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours or on HIGH for 4-5 hours.

Thanks for all the ideas and recipes. I'm thinking I'm going to sit down with the calendar for the next several months and just plug in the soups each week so I don't forget any!

Oh my gosh, Daizy! I just filled the crock pot with a triple recipe of your soup. It smells SO good I was tempted to try it uncooked! LOL! I didn't though - it's too early for that! Thanks again - I think my guys are going to love this! :) Hugs - Nini

I make up my "beef stew" so it's different every time but basically I take some stew meat and put it in a casserole dish. Then add whatever veggies I have on hand (I like carrots, onions, peas, green beans, and peppers). I then top it off with a can or two of cheddar cheese soup (not diluted). I bake it in the oven for an hour or two depending on what I'm doing.

I like your idea. Its just me at home until the weekends so I may make my soup on Friday to have for when the family comes over. My last soup was Santa Fe Soup:

1 pkg Ranch dressing powder
1 pkg Taco Season powder
1 can Diced tomatoes
1 can Black beans
1 can Shoe Peg corn (Regular corn works too)

Crock pot all day and make corn muffins or just use crackers. Out of this world and so so so easy.

Awesome post, Wendy! We love soup, too. Please share your recipes!!! We've never had lasagna soup, and I've not had cheddar broccoli soup since college, if you can believe it - it was one of my favorites!

Ally - your soup sounds yummy!

I know I've shared this one before, but in case you haven't seen it, this is my family's absolutely favorite. Very hearty - my meat-loving son goes nuts over it! :)

Grandma Dulude’s French Vegetable Soup (In Rhode Island this is also known as "Venus De Milo Soup")

In large pot, quickly brown 1 lb. ground beef and drain.

Add:
1 large can chicken broth
1 quart water
1 package onion soup mix
2 stalks celery, chopped finely

Boil for 20 minutes.

Now add:
14 oz. canned tomatoes or stewed tomatoes, cut into small pieces, with juice
1 package frozen vegetable mix
˝ c. orzo (pasta)

Boil for 15 minutes longer.

Add 1 T. Worchestershire sauce.

Serve hot. Add a little grated parmesan to each bowl, if desired. ;

On a cold day, there’s nothing like it!

As an added note, it's very easy to substitute your own homemade and preserved ingredients, if you prefer. You don't need to use the boxed or store-canned stuff at all! :)

Oooh! That sounds great! We also had soup today! Cabbage and potato! Pretty simple just chop up 5 potatoes, 1 small head cabbage, 2 sm/med onions, 6 cloves garlic, 3-4 carrots, add to 8 cups broth. Pinch of salt, granulated garlic (we love garlic....) a pinch pepper, a few sprigs of thyme, rosemary...slow cooker on high for 4+ hours (until potatoes and carrots are soft-ish anyway!) This was so easy and versatile. You really could add more or less of anything to taste! DH came up with this and he only wishes there were some kind of "fat" like meat, but my waistline was happy for just the veggies and potatoes! LOL!
