Please tell me I'm not alone.
Harvest season wreaks havoc on the whole house... I've got a few gallons of vinegar and some water kefir steeping on kitchen counters, elderberries coming out of my ears that need dehydrating, cucumbers that need pickling, a pound of basil to dry, 60+lbs of tomatoes to turn into sauce, green beans to can, and a few freezers to defrost/reorganize. Needless to say, other parts of the house have taken a hit from lack of attention lately. Sigh.

Yes! I'm not alone! I haven't seen the top of my dining room table since we started harvesting... There are canning jars, seeds, my vacuum sealer - everything! My sun oven still resides on the floor by the hutch, I've got boxes of home-canned goodies that need to be moved to storage, a couple of big bins full of summer stuff that need to go up to the attic... And, I'm ashamed to say, I still haven't finished cataloging all my son's homeschool books from last year to put away. Time escaped me, what can I say? My kitchen table is covered with a big crock of sauerkraut (in process), a basket full of various squashes, my dehydrator, my pressure and water bath canners... My coffee table in the living room is once again covered with homeschool books and papers to correct... And I am just now recovering from an almost week-long flu... Sometimes I look at this mess and feel like I'm never going to catch up. It's almost time for apple picking, and then I'll be canning again; and next week the Zaycon chicken will be in, which means more prepping, canning and freezing... It's overwhelming at times, for certain. But SO worth it! :) I feel as long as I keep the kitchen surfaces clean, the bathroom clean, the laundry moving, tidy up as I go, and make sure everyone's well-fed, taken care of and feels loved and important, then I've accomplished something. If there's enough room on the kitchen table to slide stuff aside when the groceries come in the door, even better. ;)

my house gets cleaned for Thanksgiving and Christmas, other then that, I don't have time, I have a plaque hanging in my kitchen that says "My house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy"...

Lanna - I'm like you, a homeschooler of four with a million plates spinning in ten different directions. I'm lucky if one room becomes completely clean in an entire week.
Good to keep busy, though, isn't it? Well, most of the time! Ha!

I'm sorry, I had to giggle at this. Not only am I trying to put up everything for the [long] winter, but I homeschool four young-ish kids and I still need to plan one of the homeschool co-op classes I'm teaching this semester (Dr. Seuss, so at least it'll be interesting). There's *always* too much going on, to where my 7yo was bugging me about starting up swim lessons again (we took the summer off) but I don't know if I can handle it added to the schedule again quite yet. The crazy part is that our schedule isn't really all that booked, especially compared to other people, we just have a lot going on at home.

Hi Lana,
Oh thank goodness you are busy living fully! What satisfaction comes from the fruits of your labor. This is better than all neat and tidy with no interests in life and boredom slowly killing every cell in your body.
Now you fall into bed exhausted but learn that it is a good tired. One can go to bed tired from sheer boredom and that is not a good tired. It never will all get done. Just keep it safe and do not demand too much from yourself. I bet you are an interesting person with a love of life.

Yes!! + we have construction and big landscaping projects going on to make better use of our outdoor garden space. I just did a double take at the pantry door, freaked out and scrubbed the grime off a few minutes ago...I'm about to haul everything out of the pantry, scrub it bare and reorganize. There needs to be 4 more of me honestly! You should see my laundry pile and all of the things to go to goodwill piled on a living room chair...Don't even get me started on the rest *Shudder* I have buckets of apple to process, basil to chop and freeze, basil vinegar and mint to dry for tea. Garden needs weeding and fall crops of greens need to be replanted o.O Perhaps I'll just go sleep in the tent.
