Has anyone ever ate Poke Salad! If so how do you prepare it?

Posted - May 12 2013 : 3:04:57 PM It's not poison when the leaves are very small, and the plant is maybe 6-8" tall. My MIL used to cook them with turnip and mustard greens and they were SO good. But the spring and fall are the best times to eat them. Parboil then strain and rinse and repeat 2 more times. They are safe to eat and so full of good nutrients too.

Posted - May 11 2013 : 09:51:14 AM Poke Salad (or sallet!) is extremely poisonous if not par-boiled in a couple of waters before eating. After they're boiled, grease an iron skillet, crack and egg or two into it, stir to scramble and add the poke greens. Finish the eggs and serve. The eggs turn a abit grey/green, but the taste is great. I ate this for breakfast many a time at my grandms's house.

Posted - May 10 2013 : 5:50:06 PM I remember eating that as a kid in Texas, but can't remember how it was done. I will ask my dad when I talk to him next.
