Where do you store the rings (the screw band) for your canning jars after you've emptied the jar?

I keep the empty jars in the basement, but I've noticed that my rings seem to pick up rust after only one or two years' use.

So I am looking for ideas for storage to get more life out of the rings.

wash well, completly dry and store in air tight glass or plastic gallon jar...
