Hi All,

I'm planning to drive from Maine to Illinois next week. Along the way I would love to stop in some small, family-owned cafes, bakeries or other businesses. I especially love really old places, the kind that have been in one family forever.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Karen

What part of Illinois are you visiting?

And if you're going to be passing through the Rochester, NY area on I-90, I can recommend some of my own hometown favs.

Don't know if this is on your route, but I have fond memories of the Miss Bellows Falls diner in (of course)Bellows Falls, Vt. An authentic old train car diner with good food and personable servers. I loved it 10 years ago, and online reviews indicate that it's still going strong: http://www.yelp.com/biz/miss-bellows-falls-diner-bellows-falls
