I am hosting an open house for Christmas and I am looking for your best recipes for finger foods and a good punch.

What a lovely idea! I wish I had a house big enough to have more than 3 people in it at once :)

I posted this on another farmgirl request for appetizers and I'll repost it here. It's a holiday favorite, so super easy to make and you can double the filling portion of the recipe very easily.

Pear, onion and Jack cheese strudel cups.

Filling
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 onion, finely chopped
1 Bosc pear, peeled, cored, finely chopped
3/4 cup (packed) grated dry Jack cheese or 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese and 1/4 cup grated sharp white cheddar cheese
3 teaspoons whole grain Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
Frozen phyllo cups to fill

Preparation:
Melt 2 tablespoons butter in heavy medium skillet over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until golden brown, about 7 minutes. Add pear and sauté 3 minutes. Transfer pear mixture to medium bowl. Cool slightly. Stir in cheese, mustard and salt.

Preheat oven to 375°F. Fill and bake phyllo cups according to instructions, and when filling is bubbly. Transfer to platter and serve.
Always a holiday favorite, very elegant and super easy. People think you slave all day over them

Diana,

I think appetizers on a stick are great. Paula Deen featured some on a recent show, so you can probably find recipes on the Food Network site. I always serve boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce; raw veggies with dip, and the old tried and true cheese and cracker tray (boring, but everyone seems to like them).

Here's one of my super-easies:

You'll need:

Dates
Cream cheese
Halved walnuts

Cut a slit in each of the dates.
Fill half of them with cream cheese.
Stick a walnut half in the rest of the dates.

Serve
(maybe act a little tired so people will think you exerted yourself). haha

Come on up that sounds great. Love the idea of freezing some too.

Thanks CJ

Well, first of all Diana, I WANNA COME!!! But, oh well, I can't!

However, I do Christmas open house almost every year and the punch recipe that I use every time which is easy and people like is:

Cranberry/Raspberry juice
7-up or Sprite

Mix them 1/2 and 1/2 and serve! I usually buy the juice in the 1/2 gallon (I think) bottles, however many I think I will need and the 7-Up/Sprite in 2 liter bottles. After I mix some up I pour some into jello molds or a bowl to make "ice chunks" so that you can put that in the punch bowl and the punch won't get watered down with regular ice.

I've used it many, many times and it's always a hit!
