Saturday is MJF Bread Baking day. Anyone interested in joining me by celebrating this delicious event by baking some bread! I plan to bake some Artisan Bread out of my 3 quart cast iron dutch oven. It's the best. What kind of bread do you want to bake? I can smell it now! Yummy....

I've done this before and it was fun!

Ceejay, would it be possible to get your whole wheat recipie? Do you know if there is a recipie using MJF starter and whole wheat? I just found out my triglycerites(spelled right?) are high and I have to switch to whole wheat bread. I love my sourdough bread though!! Thank you so much.....

Well, my bread making day was delayed a day. On Saturday I had to run to town on errands which took longer than I wanted, but also needed to purchase yeast. By the time I got home, got my power walk in and had an apron customer stop by it was too late to start bread.
But, my Honey Whole Wheat bread got made today . . four beautiful, wonderful loaves. Kneading is required but there is a certain pleasure for me in kneading bread. They came out of the oven just a bit before dinner (at about 1 PM) and cooled just enough to slice to have with dinner. I had a 2nd slice for dessert with butter and local honey. YUMMMMMM!!!

I LOVE the heel ends, sliced thick with butter and honey. Everyone in this family knows those heel ends are MINE!!!!

Also made Oatmeal cookies with toffee bits, coconut, raisins and walnuts. Will take some of each to my daughter's for Thanksgiving, have a loaf of bread to give for "Tie One On Day" and a loaf for the freezer.
It was a lovely day to bake and wear and apron made for me by my daughter!

Looks heavenly Gerri, Mine all turned out heavenly and made the house smell wonderful. Hubby had to eat might near half of the bread whrn it came out of the oven. At least the recipe makes two round loaves.

Thanks Annie! I was very content working in the kitchen today. Felt like a real Farmgirl. My only problem is I live by myself and have to contain myself from eating the whole loaf! (giggles) I'll share with my daughter tomorrow.

Breakfast will be delicious tomorrow for you! Nothing better than anything made from scratch. What times breakfast? (smiles)

Gorgeous! I was out of the house all day, but I've got two artisan-style loaves rising now. I dug out the MJF instructions, and I'm making a plain country white loaf and a rye loaf. Should be coming out of the oven right before I go to bed. Fresh bread for breakfast tomorrow!

Hi Laurie,

Just got finished making my no knead dough. It has to sit for 12 - 18 hours before I can place on bread board and lightly shape, rise for another 1 - 2 hours then bake in cast iron dutch oven. I'll have in the oven by 1:00. Then pure heaven of fresh baked bread, the beautiful aroma, and yummy to eat!

Glad to hear you are working on bread/rolls in celebration of MJF bread baking day. Smart to get some preparation done prior to the big Thanksgiving Day. Let us know how you did!

Hi Amie, I am using a recipe I found in Grit Magazine, Guide to Homemade Bread by Mother Earth News. It is a easy no-knead artisan bread. I have been very successful with it. It is very much like a sourdough bread with airy pockets, moist inside and simply delicious crusty outside. I love to dip it in homemade soup!

Wow, just by coincidence I decided to get a sourdough starter working last weekend. It should be ready to bake with by Saturday! Gerri, are you using one of the recipes from the MJF article on "bread the MJF way" from a few years ago? I got really into it that winter and kept my starter alive for a long time.
weaverchic Posted - Nov 15 2012 : 2:32:37 PM
Thanks for your particpation gals! Emily and Denise I emailed you the recipe that I use. Hope it arrived o.k.

CJ I used to bake bread all the time too! Being by myself, I either eat the whole darn loaf from the oven (smiles) or feed it to the geese at work! It's really the best of both worlds! Oh yes, the apron will be in full gear along with the cowboy boots! SMILES!

Hey Gerri,
I'll be making my yummy Honey Whole Wheat bread. I used to bake ALL of our bread when kids were still home, but I don't bake it as often these days. I have two very favorite recipes and an oatmeal bread is the other favorite.

I'll bet I know what apron you'll be wearing . . :D
