I need something that my teenager can take with her in the morning. She's skipping breakfast more and more. Some days it's a time issue others she just doesn't want what I have available. I'd love to make something ahead of time so she can just grab and go.

I made baggies of trailmix for her but I see that it's getting old and she's bored with it.

Any ideas? Healthy, protein filled - easy to eat while on the way to school?

How about smoothies in a to-go cup?

I just found this recipe that stores up to 24 hours. It would last a few days a week anyway.

Banana-Pineapple Breakfast Shake

2 cups plain non-fat yogurt
1 can (8 oz.) crushed pineapple in juice, undrained
1 ripe medium banana
8 pkts sugar substitute
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 cup ice cubes.

Combine all ingredients in blender. Process until smooth. Pour into 4 glasses, serve immediately.

Tip: The shake can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Reblend before serving.

....you might be able to use honey or other sweetner vs. packet sugar substitute as well.

This thread gave me some great ideas. Ric is never hungry until he has been up for a few hours, so I always pack him breakfast with his lunch. We usually do protein or granola bars if it's been a busy week. When I have more time in the kitchen, I try to make protein cookies, energy bars, or pastie-type stuff (either veggie-packed, or fruit and spices).

I so want to try baked oatmeal, but Mister doesn't like it!

You can make up breakfast burritos, wrap them up and simply heat and eat. You might be able to make a bunch up and freeze them ahead of time.

I just tried refrigerator oatmeal, and it was pretty good. Got it off of pinterest.
1/4 cup old fashioned oats,
1/3 cut milk (skip milk if using reg. yogurt)
1/4 cup greek yogurt
2 T maple syrup
1/4 cup fruit
Mix up and stick in the fridge overnight. Can leave up to 2 days the recipe said.

I would have suggested the homemade granola bars (if they are what I think they are - we would call them cereal bars or muesli bars)But my kids liked popcorn when teenagers - its just corn in another form to cornflakes after all- not the shop bought sweet stuff but homemade and flavoured. MJF does some great popcorn recipes.

I usually eat egg and toast, juice and coffee, but sometimes my carpool partner (Dear hubby) needs to go in early. On those days I will stick with a "bar" and fruit but I am very picky about the bars. I like the CLIF Luna bars and recently have had some "Larabars" Mostly fruit and nuts in the bars. Not oatmeal and corn syrup... and I have to stay away from whey.

Our mornings are often rushed, so my son will often have breakfast on the go, too. We usually do granola bars and fruit (pears,apples banana) or even drinkable yogurt. Sometimes we'll do the fruit and grain bars also. I look for the organic/natural versions.

We do alot of fruit in the morning. MY daughter is the same way. She doesn't get hungry until she is at school for about an hour. So I do lots of mini-muffins, quick breads, dehydrated fruit. Put some almonds, or nuts in a baggie. Those are good for her.

You can make "breakfast muffins" --pre cooked scambled eggs, ham, bacon or sausage, and some cheese baked into them. Those are great to grab on the go.

Also, breakfast burritos. Taco sized soft tortillas (can even be whole wheat) cheese, eggs, sausage, green onion, bacon, etc...however you want to make them, premade, frozen in dozens. I 5 a week, put in the fridge, then zap for about 15 seconds in microwave, wrapped in a papertowel. Food for your fingers and easy to walk with!

I used to make my kids biscuits and sausage that I would freeze in baggies and that could be nuked just before they went somewhere. I also made homemade "egg mcMuffins" that were ready as they headed out the door. They are easy and are at my blog (I used to work at the golden arches!) Another thing that they liked was small breakfast burritos that I would wrap in aluminum foil made with eggs, bacon or sausage, fresh tomatoes, green onions, picante sauce and a little cheese. I always tried to make things they could take with them that mimicked what they could get at a drive-thru (but was healthier since I controlled the fats, etc) because they seemed to be attracted to what they could "eat out" at a fast food joint.
