I must have a new mixer for dough mixing mainly!!
I need a heavy duty one as I have burned out 2 already.
I know Kitchen Aid comes highly recommended but I saw a pretty heavy duty Sunbeam at WM for $98 yesterday and wonder if there are any brands that are as good as KA for the long-haul, heavy duty use?
any experiences? thanks!!!

My MIL bought me a red Artisan KA for my birthday three years ago and I looooove it. I bake all our bread weekly and it's in near constant use all Thursday morning!

I bought my KA 15 years ago, plain white! I still love it, I do covet all those ice cream colors they come in, green, red, ooh the red one!!! They NEVER wear out!

I waited 10 years to buy my KitchenAid. I wanted one for so long and just couldn't afford it. I finally got one for myself for Christmas 2 years ago and I must say it was well worth the wait. I have the 6 quart 475 watt lift up model and I just love it. I have several of the attachments and use them regularly (our favorite is the ice cream maker attachment and the food grinder). |

Aww, Holly!! That is beautiful. I mean that because men usually have a hard time picking gifts.
Mom showed me a picture of the one you speak of and then she started talking about the professional Bosch mixers. They are way pricey but I am checking around for the pro KA on ebay and there are some factory reconditioned ones on Amazon. I am probably going to have to wait for Christmas money this year and my bread is suffering for it ;). I know that it will be worth the wait.

I have the biggest (I believe) KA model you can get. It is 475 watts with the 6 quart bowl. It was my dream for years to have one. I used to do wedding cakes (only a few here and there now) and I would eventually burn up every $100 mixer I had, sorry I don't even remember the brands. A few years ago (when we were making more money!) my husband got me the KA for Christmas. It was the most special gift he has ever given me (besides our kids of course). He knew how bad I wanted one but wasn't very good at picking things out. He went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and bought me one. It wasn't the color or size I wanted, they were very hard to find. So he got it for me and said to try to find someplace that had the biggest size. I took it back to Bed, Bath & Beyond and told them what I wanted (the 475 watts, 6 qt. bowl in an almond color). One of their stores had it in Colorado and they shipped to the store in Kansas City at no extra cost to me. I love it, I would not even imagine recomending any other mixer. I use it for so many things, and with a large family of 6 the bigger bowl is nice too. I don't know if you can find those on ebay or not but I would save the extra money and wait to get the professional model. I promise you will not be disapointed. That is the best appliance in my kitchen, not to mention the most thoughtful gift my husband ever gave me.

I had a Sunbeam that I bought at an auction for 25 cents, it worked for me for 10 years, but then when the beaters finally broke I got a KA for christmas, i love it too (hate the counter space i had to give up for it, no room in the cabinet...)

I bought the Sunbeam you are talking about! The heritage model..if you notice, it has a bigger motor than the kitchen aid...I love it, and it costs about half as much...HOWEVER, if I were buying one again, I would get it somewhere else, the Sunbeam heritage series comes in a nicer model with more attachements and a locking bowl..wish I had a locking bowl!
I say save some $$ and go for the Sunbeam, I am pleased with mine.

Hi Tracey,
I too am in love with my Kitchenaid. I have the Ultra Power version, which is 300 watts and it suits me just fine. You can also get the Artisan version which is 325 watts, and it also has a bigger mixing bowl. I use mine for big batches of cookie dough all the time!

Erica, glad you stated that about the pro model. I was wondering if I needed that for breadmaking. That is how I burned the other motors out. I was only making a 1.5# loaf in them too!! Poor things just couldn't hang!!

The K.A. is by far the best, but I would suggest you get the professional model- or whatever it's called. The one with the more powerful than 250 motor. I have the 250 motor model, and it does what I need, but I can just tell with my recent addition of regular breadmaking, the poor thing is beginning to hate me as it heats up and grunts a bit from the extra work.

I got a KA for our wedding and I swear it is the best hting ever. My two favorite gifts were our Dyson and the KA. I use it for bread when I don't feel like doing it by hand. It makes the best fluffy mashed taters even when you leave the skins on like I do. I would be lost without it anymore. I can't remember my kitchen before I had the KA, it is THAT important.

I don't have a KA but when I buy one that is the brand I will get. I've seend the Sunbeam at WM but, for me, feel it's not heavy enough.
