I just dated the lids of my peach jars with a Sharpie marker. Since you can't reuse the lid, why not write on it? Beats using stickers to label your jars and then deal with peeling them off.

AlyssaMarie - I haven't had any problems with them as of yet....but I haven't really used them on anything that's gone in the freezer. I did put a couple of labels on my "tea bins" that I put in the freezer, and so far, they are stuck on there! Couldn't tell you how they'd work after coming out of the freezer...I would imagine that if there is frost or condensation, then they would just "melt off". I've used them in the fridge & they work fine. It does say on the package that they are "repositionable for 30 seconds" & "durable for long term storage". If I get anything "sitting on the shelf" for a year or more, I'll let you know lol.

I don't use sharpies, usually cause I can't find one when I need it. I use crayons to mark the year on the jar lids when they are hot. Works great.

That's all I've ever used to label my lids.

I use them at school AND ALWAYS to label my jars- green for pickles, purple and red for jam, you get the idea!

How do those water-dissolvable labels work Pam? I saw some here locally and contemplated getting them. My concern is that they'd fall off in the freezer or after sitting on the shelf for close to a year... I'd be curious to hear how you like them.

I used to...and then one day I found these water-dissolvable labels at Walmart (of all places!) made by Ball. (I think I bought the last 3 boxes they had on the shelves lol) I still use the sharpie to write on the label, since it doesn't fade & it's easier to read marker writing than pen writing in the freezer lol. Thanks for the heads up!
