The neighbors have a huge mulberry tree that they use for ornamentation. Since they don't care for the berries, we are welcome to as many as we can reach.

This makes us both very happy. Mulberries are a sentimental favorite of mine (Mama had a tree in the backyard). Ric--well, he is crazy for my mulberry tarts!

1 pint mulberries, washed
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon each (ground) ginger, cardamom, and cloves
Pastry for two-crust pie, unbaked

Mix all ingredients except pastry in a bowl and refrigerate overnight.

The next day, preheat the oven to 350°. Line twelve muffin cups with the pastry and distribute berries evenly among them. Bake for 25 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

Hm, something tells me we will need mulberries when we have our own place!

A hook, a book, and a good cup of coffee....

Ugh! I hate mulberry trees! I love all of God's creation, but I wish he would have thought about putting those berries in a bush or smaller tree. lol! The last place I lived had a Mulberry tree by the driveway. (I lived on Mulberry Street by the way! Ha!) Every summer my car would get clobbered by mulberries and birds that ate mulberries! lol!

Wish I would have had this recipe then. I think I would have liked mulberries a little bit more, The tarts sound fabulous!

That is a great idea, thanks! I will have to remember that trick when we have our own trees.
