Posted - Jan 31 2012 : 11:02:06 PM I made my first Chillover today, using two bottle of Blood Orange/mandarin soda (Thos. Kemper, I think.) It's great! A little soft. I hve to read again about how to make the firmer version, and the jewels and things. I'm so impressed! You could make any flavor at all with this stuff. I drink rosemary and lemon thyme tea, I could use that. Dunno what on earth I'd do with it, but I could use it. And this is the dead of winter too. Just think when it's summer here, and at least 60 degrees. I want to have a tea party sometime, and I could make chillover in teacups like inthe book. Or jewels. Gosh. It's easier than Jell-O, too, cuz agar dissolves faster.
On a related but not appetizing note, did y'all knw that agar is used to make the basic gel in those dishes labs use to grow bacteria? It's agar and various kinds of nutrient broths, depending on what kind of bugs they're trying to grow. Tho I bet they get packets with just add water.
I'm going to go look for all kinds of sodas and juices to try. I have some Just Black Cherry juice. I'll try that next. Whee! |

Posted - Feb 03 2012 : 6:17:48 PM My chillover flavor was just Blood Orange (just!), and it's good. It separated a bit tho. Thing is, it's only me, and I don't usu. sit down and eat a bowl of jello at one sitting. It was a bit soft from the start, so I'm pondering that. Also pondering how much sugar to add to other kinds of juices.

Posted - Feb 02 2012 : 5:30:40 PM Wait until you try the Chill-Over Marshmallows! They are amazing. And somewhere around here I made a recipe for chocolate silk chillover- or if you want to be less fancy you *could* call it chocolate pudding ;)
