There is a little bakery shop in a local town that sells all kinds of single serving pies in a jar that you take home and bake right in the jar. They seem to be doing so well that I've started seeing some of their jar pies in the organic section of the local grocery store. So, I thought pies in a jar would be a great last minute gift idea and went looking for recipes. I found this website that has all kinds of tips for homemade gift ideas in a jar, including pies and cakes!!

I think this is a very good idea. I have made Pumkin bread from the Blue Ball or Kerr canning book for years. I make the batter, pour it into wide mouth jars and bake in the oven. When the bread is done baking I put the flats and rings on and let cool and put the jars in the freezer. So easy to take out of the freezer, thaw, and slice. I always made this in the fall when we had lots of pumkin in the garden and walnuts from the three trees in our yard. Tastes so good with hot coffee or tea when the snow is blowing. I think I will try the pie in the jar next summer when the cherries and peaches are producing. They would be the perfect size for my husband and me.

That is so cool! I may have to try that! I'm doing a "handmade pay-it-forward" this year & have no idea now what to make for people! I don't want something that is time consuming, since I would like to "deliver" them between Christmas & New Years, but I'm also busy doing other Christmas presents.
