My mom and I were talking about how expensive (and processed) mixes are, but they are so very convenient. We were at a food and gift festival and loved some of the dips, but just couldn't justify spending the money on a little baggy of spices. So we thought that maybe we could each find several mixes to work on, put them together and then help stock each other's kitchens. Things like: soups, dips, various baking mixes. Pretty much anything.

Anyone have any suggestions/advice? Recipes that you use and like?

Thanks!

This is something I have been working on lately also. I have the original make-a-mix cookbooks plus a couple of others. I use the brownie, cookie and general baking mix all the time. Plus the chicken mix and hamburger mixes are so useful. I canned the chicken mix this year instead of taking up space in the freezer.

I figure the mixes are my "winter" provident living project now that fall canning season is winding down. (thank heaven!)

Do what you love, love what you do.

Wendy, one of my favorite bloogers, Suzanne, at http://chickensintheroad.com/ has several mixes that I use all the time. Like for hamburger helpers, Ranch dressing... She has alot. You would go to her Farm Bell Recipe section. I love her blog.

I second the Make-a-Mix cookery books. They're great!

I bought all of the Oregon Spice sauce mixes, because my son is macaroni and cheese fiend.

If you need help figuring out a drop, I can help you.

I just got my first order last week. I wish I would have ordered more.

There are a few books out there. I have one, More Make-A-Mix Cookery By Nevada Harward, Karine Eliason, Madeline Westover. I have used alot of recipes, and they have turned out great.
