OK all you farmgirls, I need some help. A couple of years ago I purchased some dried apple slices at a local Farmer's Market. They were called "Apple Pie Dried Apples". Unfortunately the seller would not share the recipe. This year I am blessed with an abundance of apples and I would try to find the secret to these tasty dried apples slices. I know that cinnamon and sugar were used and also powdered milk as there were granules of the powdered milk on the dried slices. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so, would you share with me? I would also be interested in any recipes and tricks for drying apples. I have a dehydrator that warms to 145 degrees. Thanks in advance for sharing.

Special Apple Snacks
4 apples 1/4 cup pineapple juice 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Peel apples. Cut into 1/4" thick rings or slices. Dip slices in pineapple juice for 1 minute. Place dipped apples on a mesh-lined Clean-a-Screen® positioned on a Nesco®/American Harvest® dehydrator tray. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of apples. Dry for 6 to 10 hours at 135º F. until crisp. Cool and store in an airtight container.

Posted - Nov 05 2011 : 4:26:59 PM Thanks for posting this. I bought a box of apples here while back and due to other pressures in my life I just put them in the basement where it is cool. I checked on them last night and they still seem to be good but I was wondering what I was going to do with them. I remembered when I read this post that I wanted to dry them.

Posted - Nov 05 2011 : 11:22:49 AM Hmmmm, I wonder. I recently read a recipe for dehydrating pears. The person would layer sugar in a stock pot, then place a layer of sliced and peeled pears, then another layer of sugar. Keep repeating ending with sugar. I guess the sugar would draw out the water and sweeten at the same time. I wonder if you could try that with cinnamon and sugar and then before actually dehydrating place in a baggie with dried milk and shake them dry?
I'm curious to see if anyone has a recipe for this too!
