One of my blog readers asked if I would post a list, with photos, of the equipment I use in canning so that they could actually see what what to look for. I posted it just a bit ago at the blog and I am sure that I left something out, but will add as I think about it. Anyway, if there are any canning newbies out there, or somebody who thinks they might want to give it a try, take a look and see what you think!! :-)

Hi Mary Beth. I am not a beginner, but thought I would look over your page. I have a tip-I place my jars in an oven set at 170 degrees to keep my jars warm. This eliminates the need to take up much needed burner space on my stove. Also I own 2 AA canners and they do not have a gasquet or seal that need to be replaced each year. Not only do they have the guage but they also have the 3 sidded jiggler weight, so you do not have to rely on the guage. I had mine tested before the first use at our local county extension office and would have been better off taking it to a class of 3rd graders. I do know my guage rides at 11 psi but rely on my jiggler to tell me where I am at. Thanks for putting your info out there.

Thanks MaryBeth- Your post was very informative! I am a "newbie" canner this year and so far have done Dill Pickles and Strawberry Jam. It is alot of fun and I cant wait to give these as part of our homemade Christmas!
