My absolutely favorite (at the moment that is...) is Mounds. Something about the dark chocolate, and the coconut, just mmmmm!!!!

So ladies, what are some of your favorite candies? Chocolate or gummies? Chewy or creamy? It's past dinnertime, now on to the dessert

Thanks Judy!

If ya like Reese's, try this! Sounds weird, but it's WONDERFUL!

GREAT-GRANDMA HAMILTON'S POTATO CANDY

5 cups powdered sugar (more, or less, as needed)
1/3 c. cold, unseasoned mashed potatoes
1/4 c. butter (1/2 stick)
1 tsp. vanilla
5 c. unsifted confectioners sugar (10x)
1 c. peanut butter (we use chunk!)

Use mixer to blend potatoes, butter and vanilla until smooth.
Add 10x sugar, 1 cup at a time, until stiff and tacky to touch.
Roll out between wax paper sheets into a rectangle, pull off
top sheet and spread top with peanut butter. Use the wax sheet
underneath to roll into a log. Cut roll in half, chill at least
2-3 hours in fridge. When firm, slice and serve!
(You can also dip the slices half in melted chocolate!)

Sweet and salty and wowza! :)

Mel: I want that faux RPBC recipe, please?
Judy: thanks for showing me this thread.yum yum, right up my alley. lol

I love Mounds, Clark bars (or anything like it),Bit O Honey, Black jelly beans, licorice, caramels and any chocolate. :)
here's a recipe for "Mounds" bars:

Mounds Bars

1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
1 14oz pkg flaked coconut
1/2 cup water
2 tsp almond or vanilla extract
12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

In large pan, cook sugar, corn syrup and water, stirring constantly til sugar is dissolved. Cook without stirring to 236 soft ball stage, using candy thermometer.Remove from heat. Stir in coconut and extract. Cool mixture and shape into balls with buttered hands. Melt chips over double boiler. Dip bars in chocolate, place on waxed paper to cool.

Make my words soft and tender, for I may have to eat them. :)

Ok anybody over 50 should go over and say "Hi" on the "Over 50" thread on the Welcome Wagon. We talk about this kind of stuff all the time. It's so much fun!
AJ Are peabut butter logs kind of honey-comby inside with a wonderful, lite ~~crunch~~? I think I've seen them at our Ben Franklin 5 & 10 cent store in Canton, Ohio. Maybe it's on-line. It's a very old-timey store and they still sell penny candy and nickle candy. You can also find things there that ya haven't seen since you were a kid....and I'm 56...so there's a lot of fun stuff to browse thru!
Ok...it's not even noon and I NEEEED candy!!! hahaha

Remember when we were kids a you could buy peanut butter logs (they were stripped) for a penny a piece? Ok maybe I'm showing my age lol. Anyway the dollar store by use started carrying them. I bought a bag and the next thing I knew they were all gone. It wasn't a big bag

Why did I read this?? And every page of it to boot!! And I am dieting...Sheesh!

But my list:
frozen snickers
butterfinger
Big Hunk
starburst jelly beans
tropical or fiesta starburst
white chocolate kitkat

That's the short list. Then it can all depend on the season: candy corn, hard candy for christmas,etc...
Man, I love candy...and I am glad I don't have any sitting around here...I'd have eaten it and would be starting the diet over tomorrow!

Oh My goodness! Why didn't I see this sooner?
I agree, all chocolate is equal to me - white chocolate or milk chocolate or even (mmmm) dark chocolate. I like the salt and sweet - chocolate covered pretzels or I once had Dove chocolates (caramel!) sprinkled with sea salt! I'm going to pass out just thinking about it... My daughter likes kit-kats, thanks for the frozen idea, she just freaked when she saw it. She also likes Necco wafers, though I really can't see it.
I also do like black licorice. The best thing about it is that no one else likes it, so there's more for me!!!
Here in the Philly area theres Goldenberg Peanut Chews. Very very yummy.
acairnsmom Posted - Aug 31 2011 : 3:52:46 PM
I'm a Mounds fan too, almond joys are a waste of good coconut! Brach's used to make a similar one called Hula Chews that I loved as well but they no longer make them. I had to ban Milky Ways from my home since I couldn't keep myself from eating them. Same for M&M's (plain) and Hot Tamales! My dentist loves me though. They've sent several children thru grad school because of me (kidding!).

Lula's Chocolates! (They are made in Monterey, CA) Especially the ones with a bit of sea salt sprinkled on top. Not sure how her chemistry works such magic ... but, oh, her chocolates are amazing. Expensive, so I don't get them often. www.lulas.com.

Second and easier to come by - peanut butter cups. Okay, when haloween comes 'round and those little candy bars are in the bowl for the gremlins, ghosts and witches, etc., I always buy enough to make sure we don't run out and that kind of ensures leftovers. Well, gee .... I mean, it would be a shame to waste those little, mounds bars, kitkats, snickers and the like that are left in the bowl. Wouldn't it?

Then there are See's chocolate covered cherries. My son-in-law gave me a 3-pound box of them when he asked my daughter to marry him. That was about 30 years ago.

Penny, oh my gosh!!! That sounds delightful :D are you able/willing to share your recipe? If so, please do!

Betty, I've had fried twinkies before, and I think I also had fried oreos this year as well. They were so warm, and goey, and perfect and probably at least 20,000 calories haha. Fried butter sounds...buttery? Lol. Not sure if I would be willing to try that one myself.

Dove chocolate is what I grew up on, and I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one that prefers cold chocolate over room temp!

well I am a plain ol' chocolate lover... but it has to be hersheys, and it has to be COLD. I usually put my hershey bar in the freezer for 10 minutes before I can eat it.

I don't care for chocolate mixed with coconut or nougat, but I do love twix bars and kitkats, too!

Has anyone tried deep fried Snickers (or Twinkies)? I think this year is deep fried butter, but that sounds terribly greasy! Sno-cone at the fair was cherry, but the best was the elephant ear. I get one every time I go. It was a fun time at the fair, but oh so very hot.
