I won!!!! First place, cherry pie! I received a $50 gift certificate to a really nice restaurant here in town, and a medal. Woo-hoo! Such fun! I used my momma's recipe with MaryJane's crust recipe.

How exciting! I too keep thinking I want to enter something (jam, pie, whatever) in the fair but like you keep missing the deadline. Oh well, maybe next year! Keep us posted on what you're doing to prepare.

a hint, partialy pre-cook your crust and brush with egg whites, keeps it from getting soggy....good luck and have fun...

Good Luck! Sounds like fun. Just remember that the judge's opinion is just that an opinion. If you and your family love the pie that's what matters the most. :)

Nicole, good luck!! That sounds like fun and cherry is one of my favorites too. Just don't do like my mother did when she first married. Dad tells that my mom wanted to impress him with a cherry pie and worked so hard on it. She gave him a piece and he just about broke a tooth with the first bite. She had used fresh cherries and didn't know they had to be pitted!!! :-)

I'm really, really excited. I've never entered anything like this, I'm just excited to enter. I don't have to win. I always have wanted to enter my jam in the Fair, but always seem to miss the entry date. This is a little local thing at town hall. :)

Best of luck with this! I hope you win!! I love the crust recipe in Mary Jane's book. That's what got me started making pies. I don't care for pie myself, but my husband swears the cherry pie recipe in the book is the best pie that he has ever had!

Cherry! I'm the only one here that loves, loves, loves cherry pie. But in Texas, it was my mom, my aunt, and my grandmother's beloved recipe. My mouth is watering...

Good for you Nicole! I agree with Jonni on this one. Contests aren't something to practice on. You can be working on trying MJ's crust recipe a few times to see if it works. Out of curiosity, what kind of fruit pie is it? Best of luck!
