This makes me so mad. I have 6 pounds of ground turkey in my freezer I am afraid to use now, and can't return it. Errrrrrr.

Thanks FebruaryViolet. I checked and there's still nothing close by here. You'd think as big as Paducah is we'd have more here than we do. I assume you can order from that website?

I am trying to get my license but it's hard when I almost start hyperventilating as soon as my hands touch the wheel. Don't know where it comes from.

Here's a link that might help you find several things--and no, it's not strange that you don't drive. My grandmother never did, and my mother in law, even though she has a license, is terrified of driving, so she only drives within the vicinity of her beauty shop and back home! This link is to the "store" list at the Kentucky Dept. of Agriculture. Anything and everything you could want in Kentucky is on here. I'm hoping you find a solution to your shopping dilemma!

Mini, I feel your frustration!
So scary how our food is not as safe as we think.

Thanks all. I checked the site and there are 2 near me, problem is they sell beef and no poultry. And I don't drive. (I know, it sounds weird, here's a 50 year old that doesn't drive. Only thing I can say in my defense, I have a bad phobia about driving)

I live in between Paducah and Kevil. The nearest local meat supplier is in La Center, which is about 30 miles from me.

Sometimes it takes a trained detective to seach out the places you seek. Start at the local health food store, not the chains, you know the "hippie" joints. they may not carry the products but they may be able to put you in touch with those that do know. If there is a hutterite or amish colony near you, check to see if they will sell to you, most colonies practice humane kill, and somewhat organic practices, this is what they eat so they raise it the best way possible. I have to agree, there needs to be a better connection for the organic producers and consumers in each state, any one up for the challenge?

I don't think they're always represented well, these sites. Even LocalHarvest didn't have the CSA that I joined this year because the CSA didn't provide them with any info and they've been out there for 4 years and I've been looking each year for something close to my house! Glad I found it by doing another general search.

I would imagine you could find a lot of places, Woolgirl--when I visited my Aunt in Rockford, on the way to Galena, IL we passed a really awesome local meat store that advertised with a big sign, "ONLY LOCAL MEATS AND PRODUCTS".

I have looked at the eatwild site, and can you believe there is noting by me? Driving into Chicago is not an option for me, but I am right on the Wisconsin border. You would think with it being dairy country and all I would be able to find meat and a dairy!

Cheryl, where in Kentucky are you located? There are a lot of producers, actually. If you're anywhere near Paris, there is a market there that sells only local meats, eggs, cheeses, etc. Before I found producers near me, I'd get the cooler together and make a trip every month or so. Well worth it and you get a lovely drive, too.

Liz, my problem is, I really don't know of any local markets in the area for meat. I don't do dairy except for cheese, and I guess one day I'll need one for that. I have a friend I can get eggs from. I do have a local butcher but I think even his meat comes from 1,000 miles away. I know his deer meat does, it comes from Australia.

I eat mainly poultry and pork, hardly any beef except for stews and soups in the winter. If I was younger and owned my farm (I rent) I'd try raising some.

That's exactly why I want to start buying meat from local farmers. I have always said I would, but this kinda was the last nudge for me to do it.
